2020-2021 Ohio State Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

I will add that I would feel more skeptical/sour about the future if we didn't have the guards coming in that we do. People harp on lacking that inside presence but I like Key and what he will bring down the road. But our guard play is not up to snuff and I am hoping guys like Meechie, Malaki, Thornton, and Gayle can rectify that in the coming seasons.

That said, obviously, Bucks can not live on Zed alone in the post. Holtmann needs to make some sort of positive headway on our frontcourt situation.

This is sort of what I tried to say in my post in the Basketball Recruiting thread.

I would really like to see OSU work in another nonconference game to replace the A&M cancelation, especially now that Meechie needs reps. I know it is gonna be tight, but surely there is one Ohio college with the flexibility to take on the challenge, right? A lot of schools are playing back to backs now, no reason for OSU to not do that to get the extra game in when it fits travel-wise. They could play a B1G home game one day, Weds vs NW at home for example, then host a nonconference team Thursday. I think that is really something OSU should push to accomplish.

It probably would be good but I can only imagine what kind of logistical nightmare it is now as everyone's schedule is becoming more and more a cluster as they are trying to reschedule postponed games with teams who are also trying to reschedule other postponed games.

I think it is better just to cancel rather than postpone and then quickly schedule whatever replacement game with whoever. While I think it is becoming semi-clear who the best teams in the B1G are this season, I don't think the conference race is gonna mean a whole lot.

As for OSU, I know they were trying to replace that last non-conference game but I would have thought they'd try to squeeze that into the PSU window. Maybe Holt feels like he is already needing to figure out how to get B1G games back, he is not wanting to complicate the issue further by trying to get a MAC school in somehow at this point.

I'm sure EJ's mono, the subsequent losses, trying to re-integrate Towns, Musa contact tracing, and now having temporarily lost all the PGs he started the season with... Just a lot of distractions for Holt from trying to wrangle the scheduling fiasco into a situation where he can maximize his number of games. And the B1G is so good in terms of depth, I get wanting to focus on whatever conference game is next up.

"CJ and Ibrahim are both out with injuries," Holtmann said. "Ibrahima is still returning from his MCL sprain, CJ from torn ligaments and Jimmy continues to be evaluated. No definitive word right now on him. But CJ will be out again with torn ligaments and Ibrahima will be out with an MCL sprain."

If Sotos cannot go against Northwestern on Wednesday, it puts the Buckeyes in an interesting bind at the point guard.

"I think that's something that we'll keep somewhat close to the vest," Holtmann said when asked about the potential game plan. "You're looking at all options at this point. We talked about such a rare situation with injuries to one specific position, dating back to our summer with Abel. So I think it'll require guys to move around, different positions if Jimmy's not available and we'll have to have a really good understanding of what we're trying to do."
