Not trying to be Debbie Downer.....I don’t see it or hear about it in regards to Crowley. I think he was a late body.

I hope 100% I’m wrong. Lacks quick burst, lacks east/west agility, and IMO just doesn’t show elite athleticism. In fact, I thought his video was one of the weaker I’ve seen of our recent RB recruits.

10.5 yards per carry as a senior and 8.1 for his HS career in Florida no less. Good backs have great ypc averages in HS which Crowley really has.

That's why I knew Kareem Walker would be a bust. It's also why I think Crowley will produce here too.

You're right he's not the fastest or the quickest. However he understand one part very well about being a RB, and that's gaining yards and scoring.

He can if he's plays the same role as late last year. Which is to say he's more 3rd down RB/slot. I imagine with Dobbins and Teague he'll only ever carry the ball ~5 times a game.

Yep. Last year OSU went 6 deep and it was fair that he was more of an afterthought. This year there is no reason he's not smack dab in the middle of the rotation. Maybe Gill eats up some of the touches, but McCall is a matchup nightmare as the 4-5th receiver out of the backfield or in the slot.

Browning still in the middle frustrates me.

At the same time, to get your three best LBs on the field it looks like you have to play someone out of position in the middle - so I guess Browning it is?

Unless you go Harrison, Mitchell, Browning... but Browning is probably much too big/weak in coverage to play the Werner/White flex spot effectively, and you’re not bumping Harrison, so you’re right back at the start.

Don’t forget about C.J. Saunders
The Buckeyes have always raved about the work ethic, route running and steady hands of C.J. Saunders, but the logjam of talent at wide receiver has made it tough for the former walk-on to find a consistent role. Ohio State is clearly trying to find a way to use him, though, especially because he continues to make defensive backs look silly during one-on-one routes. The best option might be as a punt returner, and Saunders lined up there to field punts on Friday morning. There are plenty of other guys with higher profiles at wideout, but Saunders can be a real asset for the Buckeyes.

True, but money is often a proxy for prestige and importance among your peers. There's no way you can convince me he's the "least important" coach on our staff. He has similar years coaching experience as Coach Washington so I expect/hope he gets bumped up to $500k soon.

True, all of that. But I also know that he was working for peanuts 18-months ago to break into the profession... and I'm sure that he recognizes that salary increases happen over time. It would be difficult to justify a $500K raise to any second-year coach. He does, presumably, have a leg up on his nest egg compared to most other second-year coaches... but I'm with you. You've got to push his salary trajectory much harder than others -- especially if you intend to keep him around.

Who knows, maybe he really wants to stay at tOSU. Maybe not. Why run the risk?

I'm not trying to count the guy's money, but Day has a finite budget for his assistant coaches. If Hartline takes less, that's money we can spend elsewhere. We saw how important that alumni draw was to Corey Raymond this offseason and he never sniffed an NFL contract close to what Hartline made.

Hartline is under no obligation to take below market value, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if he did.
