The offense won’t be the same as last year. It will clearly be different.
It doesn’t have to be quite as potent. But there is enough playmakers and you presumably will have a starting QB with the ability to extend drives with his legs. So, I am fine being patient as the offense gels. Just need to limit our turnovers, especially early in the season as the offense is trying to find its stride. With Day at the helm and the weapons on offense, I have little doubt it will eventually get there.
On the other hand, I had little faith last year that the defense would ever improve for a variety of well discussed reasons. So if the D is going to make a big step forward which I expect, then I’m cautiously optimistic. I expect that side of the ball to start off better than last year and continue to get better and better. If you told me that by November they were considered good/very good then I’d not be surprised. And by that time I fully expect the offense to be in that category as well.
Last year was the most lopsided tOSU team in recent memory. Not a dominant run team, terrible defense and an electric passing game. That’s never been a typical OSU team.
This squad will be WAY more balanced while still retaining the possibility to have plenty of fire power offensively once they gel.
So whereas last year to me was an offense at an A grade and a defense with a C- grade I can see each being in the B+ to A- range.
