2019-20 Bowl games (non-CFP) thread

Damn slot machine aggy. Now if Fredo pulls a win out of their ass, we'll have a year where the juggalos, Beavis and Fredo all won bowl games while we did not.

Fredo plays tonight vs "Louisiana" which apparently is what Louisiana-Lafayette is going by nowadays.

yeah that’s what USL is trying to do these days. Which is technically against state law.

But these ignorant fucks actually think that is they call themselves just “Louisiana” it puts them on equal level of teams like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas, etc.

I know this is an unanswerable question, but how can Lafayette claim "Louisiana" over, say, Monroe?

legally speaking, they can’t.

they tried like 15-20 years ago and got shot down.
State legislature said there is no one “University of Louisiana”.

Compromise was that if another school in the system also changed their name, then (and only then) could USL officially changed their name.
One of the caveats is that they must always use the name of the municipality in their name.
So, Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe (formerly Northeast Louisiana).

Monroe has followed along with all of the legal requirements and you never really hear peep from them. So rest of state just kinda lets them go on their way.

USL on the other hand continues to push the envelop of dropping “Lafayette” or the “-L”.
Even going as far as writing official letters to networks like ESPN to complain if they are referred to as Lafayette.

So because of that, rest of state fucks with them about their name.
And in their minds, their name is the ONLY reason they aren’t bigger than LSU. And if they could just change their name to Louisiana they would skyrocket past LSU to levels never before reaches by any university in history. And they would finally take their rightful place on top of the entire world.
Anyone against the name change is “scared” of them.

Well then they've found a kindred spirit in Fredo (OH) who does everything in their power to disguise the fact that they are a public university and whines to and lobbies espn to never put the (OH) next to their name.

So it's the University of Louisiana vs Miami Don't Dare Mention That We're A Non-Flagship Public University In Ohio.

That's nuts! Say they do somehow get everyone to call them "The University of Louisiana". What does that make Monroe?

Edit: Damn, some recognizable schools in the "University of Louisiana" System

The University of Louisiana System has nine member institutions:

Well, this has been an educational experience! Looking up LSU for comparison purposes and I found this small fact I didn't know!

"Louisiana State University Agricultural & Mechanical College had its origin in several land grants made by the United States government in 1806, 1811, and 1827 for use as a seminary of learning. It was founded as a military academy and is still today steeped in military tradition, giving rise to the school's nickname "The Ole War Skule." In 1853, the Louisiana General Assembly established the Seminary of Learning of the State of Louisiana near Pineville in Rapides Parish in Central Louisiana. Modeled initially after Virginia Military Institute, the institution opened with five professors and nineteen cadets on January 2, 1860, with Colonel William Tecumseh Sherman as superintendent."
