2019-20 Bowl games (non-CFP) thread

Per ESPN, the Ragin Cajuns are getting their first bowl win outside of Louisiana since the 1944 Oil Bowl. What a shame that there is no more Oil Bowl. Imagine all of the companies that could sponsor the Oil Bowl - Pennzoil, Valvoline, Johnson's, Neutrogena, Vaseline.

had to look it up. this is phenomenal

Some consider the New Year's Day bowl game of 1944 (after the 1943 season) to have been a college division/minor bowl game. Both rosters were made up of varsity players from ranked teams in the 1942 season. This was possible because both schools were participants in the World War II V-12 program. The Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana-Lafayette) team, for example, was composed of over 175 varsity players from other colleges. These numbers included 18 players from 19th-ranked Rice, nine players from 13th-ranked LSU, and eight players from the eighth-ranked Tulsa teams of 1942. These players were not all starters for the team; varsity players from other schools made up the majority of the team

Interesting. Looks like they were way ahead their time with the mass transfers.

not sure on that one.
I know a few alum. Some still call it Northeast.
Some just call it Monroe.

Guy i graduated HS with is in their baseball Hall of Fame.
I’ll have to ask his opinion if that one.

Another alum I know absolutely despises all other in state schools except Nicholls (both his sons played baseball there).
I can only imagine what he’d say on the subject.

jesus Louisiana has waaaaaaay too many 4 year colleges for its population.

states with more people but fewer colleges:
Arizona
Washington
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Alabama
South Carolina
Colorado
Indiana (ok, they technically have 2 more but have 2 million more people too)
The UofL system (per Wiki) has over 90,000 students in their 9 schools. Are they glorified branch campuses? I dunno.

Arizona may have fewer schools, but ASU and UofA are HUGE. ASU has over 50,000 students and UofA has over 40,000. I would be ok with the way LA does it. Plus, there is no real in-state challenger to LSU athletics.

A board, and it's magnificent. Picture seven guys in a room all smelling each other's farts while saying "public ivy" every other sentence, and one begins to get the gist of the place.
Keep laughing, Slappy. Did you go to the Lending Tree Bowl Parade? Didn't think so.

From that thread comes this DAMNED GOOD ADVICE. What's the only thing better than watching the Lending Tree Bowl Parade? WATCHING IT TWICE!

"You can also catch parade twice if you want to. Watching from Church Street then walk back towards Royal Street. If you do this make sure you're on the east side of the barricades so you can walk back to Royal without crossing barricades."

This guy gets it. When you make it to The Lending Tree Bowl, for god's sake act like you've been there before.

Wealthy Alum

I also thought it was a bit bush league for some in our group to heckle the UL band as they paused in front of the Battle House. Their kids seemed a bit shocked by our demeanor.

As a Miamian, I would like for the world to view our fan base as being a knowledgable, polite one that exhibits good sportsmanship (the model may be Nebraska) rather that some that I’ve seen that behave inappropriately. When we are gathering in public in the Red and White we are all representing our alma mater.
