2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

Totally OK with the outcome. The CFP is about picking the best team. I don't think tOSU is a contender for the best team in the country. Neither does Alabama but you have to put someone in that 4th spot. This is just one of those years that the BCS would have worked better. Clemson vs. OU would be a great CG. Hopefully we end up with that.

For those talking about 2015, every year is different. Yes the 2015 team was more deserving than 2017 Alabama, but the other teams that made it in that year were more deserving than tOSU. 2015 tOSU in the 2017 situation, even considering the same situation with 2017 Alabama, tOSU makes it in ahead of them.

The problem with our resume' is that 2 in the loss column. It's not just about wins.

No team has made the CFP with a loss of more than 14 points, much less two of them.

Right, but the problem with Bama's resume is they have no quality win, played a crap schedule, and didn't win their conference.

What bothers me is the committee has made it clear who you play doesn't matter if you are a power 5 team, and conference titles don't mean squat.

So my question is what reason does any power program have to schedule anymore tough OOC games anymore? All you have to do is finish with no more than 1 loss and have a few weak top 25 wins.

Is that what he said? Not close? I turned that [Mark May] off as soon as I saw Bama. So basically they knew this before yesterday if it wasn't close.

Going to the playoffs was the big goal but in the end I'm not that surprised. Like many of us, my biggest issue is with fucking Bama. Sorry to say, USC would've been a better choice. It would've at least represented another conference and put in a new team. Who knows, maybe they would've actually surprised people... I mean probably not but...
He said unequivocally better then emphasized it wasn't close so he wouldn't have to put forth a logical argument on TV. Which was a pathetic cop out.

general consensus is that ucf will play auburn in the peach bowl, and osu will play usc in the fiesta bowl (sat., december 30 at 4:00 est). there is a risk of osu playing ucf, but the draw of two somewhat local teams should be more compelling to the peach bowl committee.

Deserve's got nothing to do with it. Ohio State was one of the four best teams in the country in 2015. Bowl results, playoff results, NFL draft results, NFL production all prove it, unequivocally.

You can lose to Michigan St on a walk-off FG and still be the better team.

All I expect from the CFP committee is consistency.

I just don't want them straight up lying. Like, if teams 5-8 are very close and team 8 beats 4 in a conference Championship...how does that not put team 8 over team 5?

That's the main thing I have a problem with. If the committee said teams 5-7 were close then I wouldn't be as angry.

I hope that is how it works out. I would love the traditional USC match up and want no part of a UCF game that is a no win scenario

This. It's not about dropping the tough OOC game, it's about dropping the 9th conference game and playing a patsy.

All other things being the same, if Ohio State played The Citadel in November instead of going on the road to Kinnick, they'd be the #3 seed.

Who cares about those fuckers? We're a better team because we do those things. We shouldn't stop doing them just because Bama, the evil empire and the SEC are cowards.

I agree they shouldn't reward them. But, we shouldn't start doing it either. If you have to fight to be #4 with a sliver of hope (which is what has happened every year), shouldn't be all that surprised when they pick the team they pick every fucking year.

I'm VERY interested to see how things shake out next year and 2019. The entire playoff era we've had the same QB and offense. Inclined to believe that's why we've been #4. I almost think if we're any good (which may take another year or so), we won't have to worry about being #4.
