2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

As good of a time as being "jumped" by the domers and Clemson after beating the #2 team. It's just annoying. Sometimes I think the committee wants to be different just for the sake of being different.

True about the LSU/Bama debacle. Only NCG that I didn't even watch.

I didn't watch that LSU/Bama crap either.

As for these rankings, remember that the polls don't mean anything. The AP had PoSU at #2 - the CFP committee didn't - so we weren't really "jumped" by anyone.

Frankly, I don't think they should even do the committee thing more than once - at the end - like in basketball. Doing it now is just for shits & giggles.

I do like the transparency of it.....but they still have the ability to do something like jump the #6 team up to #4 without having to explain themselves.

Playing in the Garbage Division of the B1G has some pitfalls.
they're all the same on that side too...

Iowa, Nebraska,
btw, winning a B1G championship is a big deal. Something Urban has done once in (5) years. Hopefully twice in (6) years. And the last time the Buckeyes won the B1G they won the NC.
well technically he has won 2 in 5 years with the one not counting due to suspension. We win this one and personally it'll be like 3 of 6 for me

I get that feeling too.. there was no reason to put Clemson in over OSU or even OU for that matter. Why because they beat an Auburn team that's probably going to finish with at least 3 losses?
I think the committee is mostly ranking the teams based on what they've done up to this point. Clemson's ranking is a little iffy because the logic isn't quite there. It almost seems like the committee is giving Clemson a mulligan for that Syracuse loss...but if that's the case then why are they ranked behind Notre Dame? Clemson has better wins than ND at this point in time so shouldn't they be number 3? I can only assume the committee thinks Notre Dame would beat a full strength Clemson team.

Fun to speculate either way.

I heard something about taking injuries into account, which is crazy since they were getting man handled with their starting QB in the game, which is why he got injured in the first place.

Yeah, the CFP poll doesn't matter much now, and they've shown they will jostle teams around at will. I don't even care all that much about the playoff (which begs the question, why is this now my 3rd post in the CFP thread... addiction is hard). The playoff is about the NC an under the old old system if you didn't find your self at #1 at the end of the season, you weren't champion. After you loose you can't complain. I just want to win the B1G and let the chips fall where they may.

But... the AP (do the coaches still poll?) had the Buckeyes at #3 after beating #2, which is logical. Then CFP comes in and goes all Doug Laramensis (SP? DGAF) and puts them and 6, behind the Domers. THE F'ing DOMERS!!!

Hocutt said there was passionate discussion er mega arguing re: 3/4/5/6/7 so this indicates it was very, very close and the eye test as well as winning the next (4) wks will be huge!
http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=21242348Hocutt[/url
ND beat Sparty 38-18 and total yardage was 496/355 Domers w/MSU having (3) turnovers. The Sparty game is one which the Buckeyes have to take no prisoners! er win decisively. hmm 49-0.

btw, 49-0 also would be nice re: Iowa.

Iowa 44 ~ Iowa St. 41 /// Iowa St. 38 ~ Oklahoma 31 /// Ohio State ... you get the picture.

On second thought just beat Iowa period, but style pts. would be nice.

It's not the fans who are saying it. It's the network/cable talking heads.
I feel like the espin talking heads are going to push this for a few weeks to crank the rankings of their $$$ec games. As time gets close, maybe even after the seccg they will be instructed to reverse course. espin paid a lot of money for the championship game and a rematch of georgia/bama in a semi, or worse yet a rematch of georgia/bama in a national championship game is going to loose them A LOT of money. In the last week or so you'll see a huge push for OSU and ND. If a Pac team becomes viable they will push for them even harder, but that seems a lost cause. Oklahoma and clemson might provide even worse ratings than bama and georgia. Right now the only teams in the top 10 that are going to make them money are ND and OSU.

33 million people watched osu/oregon
25 million people watched bama/clemson
24 million people watched bama/clemson round 2. The ratings for those two were simply people watching for bama to loose. Now that Clemson won last year, round 3 might not even draw 20 million. A rematch of Bama/Georgia would be worse. espin won't let that happen.

Pretty nuts that both Bama/Clemson games drew almost 10 million less than Oregon/OSU. A Notre Dame/Ohio State National Title game might break records.

Really, really, really want to see a final of Bama-ND-OSU-Oklahoma. I want to play ND soo bad in a playoff game. We would destroy their one dimensional offense. Bama will end the season undefeated with their only big win being 1 dimensional Georgia. They are great at stopping the run, but I want to see them attempt to stop Baker Mayfield. Wouldn't even care who wins, we get a rematch against oklahoma or get to take down the tide (again). Ahh, just a dream....

Damn #6. Theoretically if OU, Clemson, and ND win out we will not make it

Not how this works at all.
Committee has made it pretty clear they dont do "placeholders". Baylor and TCU are still crying.
If Wisconsin and/or Miami really go undefeated through their CCGs ... you can guarantee they'll jump into the top4 whether they're 5 or 25 the week before.
We're fine where we're at imo. We still have Iowa*, MSU, scUM, and Wisconsin to build schedule strength and argument. We just beat #7 but it was messy... and our loss to #5 wasn't close either.

Looks like Notre Dame is going to fuck somebody over... hopefully not us.

*The might have a shit record but they did something OU and TCU couldn't ...
