2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

As long as we beat Bucky I don't care where we go as long as we aren't playing UCF(Fuck being in that situation). I honestly think our record is better than our team this year.

Correct, we have a decent team but in my opinion this is not a top 5 team, much less a top 2 team. They lack in the secondary at safety something we had very good with Bell and Hooker before. This is where we need to improve and keep stacking better dline talent each year like Clemson.

Fuller and Webb is not good enough and this is where we have gotten beat and linebacker. This is not a complete defense and to compete with Kelly Bryant and Baker you need a total complete defense. We are best suited to going to the rose bowl and playing usc or stanford. Though I pray to god it is not Stanford because they would expose us like Iowa with the big offensive tackles and scheming. Wiscy just doesn't have the talent.

It's pretty simple at this point. In order of importance, we want these 3 things to happen.

1. Oklahoma L to TCU
2. Clemson L to Miami
3. Auburn L to Georgia

If 1-3 of those things happen we have a decent chance. If all of them win it's us vs Bama and while we have a better resume I doubt we get in over Bama.

If we lose to Wisconsin then none of this matters of course.

And while this team has many flaws and is by no means elite, this may be the year to steal one as I don't see any of these teams as unbeatable.

Kelly Bryant isn't Deshawn Watson. He's Jalen Hurts. Great read option but meh throwing. Also the safety's are ok outside of Eric Smith th last few weeks. Linebackers not knowing how to play zone or what a play action pass is and tackling are the issues with the D.

Well you can throw out the two loss point because the only way there isn't a two loss team in is if Wisconsin beats OSU or if Bama loses to Auburn and Georgia beats Auburn and they both get in with 1 loss. But if Bama, Clemson, and Oklahoma win out the 4th team is guaranteed to have 2 losses. It's just which 2 loss team.

I agree that a 2 loss team shouldn't get in ahead of a more deserving 1 loss team, but if Bama wins out that won't be the case.

Edit: hell, we could just be getting started. There legitimately could be MULTIPLE 2 loss teams and it wouldn't be crazy. Imagine if aubirn wins out, Clemson loses to SC and beats Miami, and Oklahoma loses to TCU. You'd probably have 3 two loss teams and a 1 loss team in....and that 1 loss team could be a non-conference champ in Bama. And I didn't even need to stretch for that scenario.
Well right now if Auburn wins next Saturday and if tcu upsets Oklahoma, there could be 3 two loss teams. Even if Oklahoma wins there could be 2 if they take OSU over Bama. But, there could also be zero if Georgia, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin all win.

As for OSU, I initially thought you wanted to root for Oklahoma, but tcu winning may be the better call. Mucks up the Big 12 to the point where they may need to decide to take neither or both. It's almost exactly like 2014 but replace Baylor with Oklahoma. And if it's chalk with Clemson, Oklahoma, and SEC champ (either winner is ahead of osu) and it's OSU vs Bama, I think if OSU looks legit, they're in. Their resume would just be flat out better. Technically even if they win ugly their resume is better, but the committee wouldn't feel good about it.

My best guess now that ND is gone:

1. Clemson
2. OU
3. Wisconsin (the CFP committee has to realign them big time this week, 1 game away from being an undefeated P5 champ)
4. Auburn/UGA
5. UGA/Auburn
6. Bama
7. Da U
8 OSU

IF
OU beats TCU
Clemson holds serve than Da U is gone
SEC CCG loser is gone (especially if UGA wins and Auburn has 3)
OSU beats UW

then you will have the 2 loss conference champ OSU vs 1 loss no champ Bama beauty contest everyone is going to be so interested by

OU or Clemson get upset then fuck me running...no idea but wouldn't be good for OSU
I have:
1. Clemson
2. Oklahoma
(Should be reversed imo)
3. Auburn
4. Wisconsin
(I could see it your way as well)
5. Bama
6. Georgia
(Georgia got annihilated, Bama soundly beat by Auburn)
7. Miami
8 OSU
(I could make an argument for OSU 7, but I wouldn't make it loudly)

I agree with #1, disagree with #2 (at best neutral with Miami getting in, opens door for both), and #3 mostly neutral (I see SEC winner in, loser out and I don't know how much it affects consideration of Bama). Tcu winning could make the committees decision quite difficult. You know that room is rooting for Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Nice and clean.

Here's one guy's opinion.....

I think I’d be okay if Ohio State misses the College Football Playoff

Let me explain.

879160120.jpg.0.jpg

Sure, it was an emotional roller coaster at times, but eventually, they pulled through. In what is becoming close to annual tradition, Ohio State beat Michigan earlier today, to end the regular season at 10-2. They clinched a spot in the Big Ten Championship game before the opening coin toss of ‘The Game’, and after consecutive third place finishes, ensured that Michigan would finish fourth in the division.

All of those things are pretty good, in my humble opinion. And now Ohio State gets to play another football game, against a (likely) undefeated Wisconsin squad.

There’s plenty of stakes here. For one, there’s the Big Ten Championship, and the shiny trophy, bragging rights, and record books placement that comes with it. There’s an automatic fancy bowl game invitation, perhaps against USC, or Washington, or Washington State. By virtually every metric, winning that game would equal a very successful season.

But, as of the time of this writing, anyway, there are additional possible stakes. Should Ohio State win, they have a legitimate shot at a bid in the College Football Playoff, despite their two losses. Depending on who you listen to, they might even be the favorite to grab one of those spots, should they knock off the Badgers.

I have a potentially unpopular opinion here. I don’t think I really care if they make it or not.

Let me explain

I mean, yeah, obviously, going to the Playoff is better than not going to the Playoff

Don’t get it twisted. Ohio State is my favorite college football team and if there’s a chance for them to potentially win a national title, I’d like for them to do that! I would not be rooting against such an occurrence, and I think that would be the ideal, preferred outcome. I realize that saying that I don’t really care if they make it is some intense, first-world fan stuff here, so stick with me for a second. Let’s at least be clear about that.

But even with a Big Ten championship, Ohio State’s resume has some substantial holes

n other years, perhaps most other years, this wouldn’t even really be a conversation. This Ohio State team, with this resume, wouldn’t really be in the playoff conversation last year. They certainly wouldn’t have been in it back in 2014. But because of a series of crazy losses and upsets, here we are.

It’s difficult for me to get really indignant about the idea of Ohio State potentially missing the playoff when they have two losses. And not just two losses, but two big, great, honking blowout losses. And while one of those, an early season loss to an excellent Oklahoma team, is defensible, the second, is not. Ohio State got murdered by a not-that-good Iowa team. An Iowa team that lost to Purdue. One that finished 7-5 and finished fourth in their division. And that’s a blemish that’s just too hard to ignore.

A B1G Champ Ohio State would have beaten a top-10 Wisconsin team, and a Penn State team that probably finishes in the top-15 or so, and an CFP Top 25 ranked Michigan State team (that, in our heart of hearts, I think we know isn’t really that good). I think Michigan is pretty good, but the playoff committee may disagree. And then it’s a lot of forgettable dreck.

Maybe that’s good enough for the No. 4 seed. Maybe it isn’t. Honestly, I think the margin is close enough, and OSU’s flaws apparent enough, that I can’t muster good and righteous indignation over it. If you can, that’s cool. Live your best life.
