2017 College Football Playoffs (and Other Bowl Games)

Regarding SEC... or even just Bama... bias....

There are two SEC teams in the playoffs. And, while I think it is entirely possible that the best two teams in the nation may both play in the same conference, or even the same division, what I saw from the SEC this year was not a very strong conference. That this year's SEC ends up with two teams in the playoffs just seems laughable to me.

I mean you can honestly say Bama might have only been 3rd best SEC team. I mean Auburn and UGA trading beatings of each other and Bama got smoked by Auburn. Who is to say Bama wouldn’t have also got smoked by Georgia?

I agree that the committee is being wishy-washy, and there may be some inconsistency with regard to application of the "rules" or "guidelines" or whatever you wanna call them. But I'll beat this horse for the 63rd time...don't lose to Iowa by 31 points and we're probably not having this conversation. Clemson got in with a bad loss, but it was their ONLY loss. Bammer lost one game. We're a two loss team, the home loss in September was ugly, and the second loss was a flu [Mark May]s cocktail. We looked pretty shaky in a few other games, including last night when we should have had the statement win to have a legitimate argument to get in as a two loss team, but we couldn't get out of our own way.

I get that people hate the SEC, and are upset that two SEC teams got in, but I just cannot argue against it given what happened in Iowa City. I never thought we should be considered since that debacle, so maybe that's why it's a little easier for me to accept.
What's your argument for putting in Alabama over UCF?

Why can't UCF say "don't lose to Auburn and you're in". UCF won two football games against ranked teams and so did Alabama. UCF also had a quality win over USF and a conference title.

If the committee values avoiding losses over big wins then how do they justify this?

The more I think about it, this was the perfect year to send a team like UCF. The 3 P5 hangers-on around #4 have more negatives than positives.

Almost word for word what I said. Why not give the ONLY Top 15 unbeaten team a shot. No one knows how they'd play. But haven't had the chance. They did everything that was asked of them. Imo there was no good choice for 4. Give em a shot

Yea so pretty much there is no consistency in the committee's argument and they just decided to put Alabama in
I think their job is to try to put the "four best" teams in the playoff. That, inherently, is going to be very subjective. You match up UCF and Bammer on a neutral field, and Bammer is at least a two touchdown favorite. Lets not get silly here. UCF cannot hang with the likes of Oklahoma, Clemson, Georgia, Bammer...or even tOSU.

Top 25 games:
UCF 2-0
Alabama 2-1

Conference titles:
UCF 1
Alabama 0

Losses:
UCF 0
Alabama 1

If Alabama is in over Ohio State because of one bad loss to Iowa then why isn't UCF in over Alabama? Alabama's schedule really isn't miles ahead of UCF.

UCF beat power 5 team Maryland, and a quality win against USF, with two wins against #20 Memphis. Beat a tough Navy team. Blew out pretty much every team they played.

Oh but now the committee cares about strength of schedule!

So pretty much throw out all the statistics and just do eye tests

Come on. Serious question-- you put UCF in the playoff, do you think they have a snowball's shot in hell at winning a game?

Pretty much putting UCF at 12 is a joke considering Bama is at 4
