Bates-Diop is playing at an all-league level this year, and said he was feeling good heading into last season before injuring his leg, playing nine games and missing the rest of the season. Obviously a healthy KBD would have made a difference. Michigan coach John Beilein said after losing to the Buckeyes last month that he thinks Ohio State would have been an NCAA Tournament team last year with a healthy KBD. I can see that.
Ohio State had eight losses by six or fewer points. Bates-Diop’s presence could have been a difference in a couple of them. Let’s shade on not giving the Buckeyes too much credit, and say they would’ve gone 4-4 in those games with him instead of 0-8 without him. Anything approaching 20 wins a double-digit league wins would have been enough to get them in I think, especially considering five of those close losses were to teams that made the NCAA Tournament (Virginia, Purdue, Northwestern, Maryland and Indiana).
