2017-2018 Ohio State Men's Basketball (24-7, 15-3, #2 Seed in B1G Tourney)

As much attention OSU's "brutal" 6 high majors in 12 days stretch got, there is an equally brutal (for fans) stretch that we are in now when OSU has 1 high major opponent - and 5 games total - in a span of 30 days.
Man, I was just thinking this the other day myself. Would have been nice to put some space into those first 6 with this lull.

They definitely need to beat Iowa on Thursday. A loss there would be disappointing. Iowa has been not very good this year but it is a road game so you never know how that's gonna go with this team.

Then comes Sparty on Sunday. It is a home game but i'd expect about the same result as the UNC game at this point. (a 10-15 point loss)

OOC was a general "success" considering, unlike the past few years, they avoided that awful loss. It would have been nice if they would have at least pulled off 1 of the Butler/Clemson games, but it is what it is.

Agree with you. I think we should handle Iowa fairly easily but you never know, as you said, because it is a road game.

Not looking forward to the game against Sparty. They are just loaded this year and very deep which will hurt us more against them than any other team we will probably face this season.

I think going into Big Ten season K Wesson is going to have to stay out of foul trouble and be a contributor for this to be a successful conference season for us. I guess the same can be said for Jackson but Wesson's position is much more important going into conference play. This is assuming that Tate and Bates-Diop live up to the way they have been performing preconference.

I guess I would be happy with a 500 season in conference. Anything more than that would be gravy.

I did not need to be reminded of that Butler game:wink:

Something to chew on regarding last year if Bates-Diop would not have broken his leg. It makes you wonder if Ohio State would have made the Dance if Matta would still be around. I know that recruiting was terrible but it would been awfully difficult to fire a coach who had just gotten his team into the tournament.

Bates-Diop is playing at an all-league level this year, and said he was feeling good heading into last season before injuring his leg, playing nine games and missing the rest of the season. Obviously a healthy KBD would have made a difference. Michigan coach John Beilein said after losing to the Buckeyes last month that he thinks Ohio State would have been an NCAA Tournament team last year with a healthy KBD. I can see that.

Ohio State had eight losses by six or fewer points. Bates-Diop’s presence could have been a difference in a couple of them. Let’s shade on not giving the Buckeyes too much credit, and say they would’ve gone 4-4 in those games with him instead of 0-8 without him. Anything approaching 20 wins a double-digit league wins would have been enough to get them in I think, especially considering five of those close losses were to teams that made the NCAA Tournament (Virginia, Purdue, Northwestern, Maryland and Indiana).
