I've never thought Matta's in game coaching was great. Not bad, but I've never viewed him as a great tactician. Where he really lacks, and that's showing big time now, is player development. That could be mitigated when he was recruiting blue chip talents, not so much now. He just doesn't seem to get guys to play to, or above their potential. He's had a number of players on his teams over the last 4-5 years that seem to really underachieve. And the lack of basic fundamentals that we're currently seeing is striking. Without the elite recruiting he was had, we're seeing underwhelming results. That speaks directly to coaching.
Is he Ayers bad? Heavens no. But he ain't top ten paid coach good, that's for certain.
