I don't see much parallel to Cooper at all. Cooper consistently lost big/rivalry games. Matta's record his first 8-9 years was excellent in those kind of games. He used to own *chigan, and had a solid tournament record (2 Final Fours, a Championship Game appearance, 2 other Elite-8's). As for the recruiting, he has recruited some decent (on paper) guys, but like you said, they didn't develop outside of Russell. That's coaching. I also think they're not recruiting the right kind of players. They're not getting guys that fit together on the court.I just feel sometimes things compound and we are in a tailspin right now. I don't know how good of a recruiter Matta is right now, because we have to give him credit for his 2015 class, at least "on paper." They were the number 5 class on 247. The 2014 class with D'Angelo, KBD, Jae'Sean, and David Bell was ranked 6. The 2011 class had Shannon Scott, Amir, Trey McDonald, LaQuinton Ross, and Sam Thompson for a number 6 rank.
I don't know if it's the type of guys Matta is getting or what, but other than D'Angelo, NONE of the guys in those classes have lived up to the billing. They are recruiting the wrong players, or not developing the guys they've got, or something. The magic is missing. I don't think Matta is disliked as much as Cooper was in football, so he's got a long leash with the fans, but we are seeing a similar story arc. After Coop had given us Eddie, Orlando Pace, and David Boston, watching Steve Bellisari throw passes into the ground just wasn't going to be tolerated for long.
Perhaps you need to read the Recruiting Forum a little bit to keep up with things.
Spellman is currently ineligible at Villanova.
Kennard was never going to come here.. Camped at Coach K's camp.
Bragg never was interested in Ohio State.. Are you going to drag him down here..
Ahmad--what has he done at West Virginia that has been so productive.
Potter is only a freshman and I think he has very nice potential. Bell is a decent backup center and has a lot of eligibility left.
I'm a huge fan of Thad. I think every fan is, or if they're not they should be. I think he's earned this year and next year to se if he can right the train.

There's no certain wins on that schedule, and I don't know that they have the gusto to pull of any surprises. 4-14 sounds about right. Anything better than that, I'll be floored. They are awful. If we win more than 4 league games this season I'll be surprised.
4-14 and Thad is toast.
So they should probably fire Thad. Tonight. Not one second later. Unwatchable at this point. I mean what else do you even want at this point? Tied with Rutgers for last place... Why should he even get this year to right the ship?
He has a $3.2 million per year contract. At this point, it's about basic business sense, which is all that the athletic department boils down to anyway. What's wrong with informing him that he's done at the end of the season and put feelers out now?Because he's done too much for this program to be embarrassed in that manner.
This season is lost, either way. He should be given the opportunity to step down on his own at the end of it.
They're gonna start conference play 0-5, maybe 0-6.
Ugh, the "Suckeyes" era...you had to bring that upI didn't last 20 minutes (real time) tonight. This team is late Randy Ayers-era bad. It's a dead horse at this point, but the Matta-era has run its course. This game might just be the death rattle.
