Alabama has always had issues pass protecting issues in my opinion, Lane Kiffin's offense seems to be a quick release style offense which has somewhat hid this issue this year but making Blake Sims hold the ball a little longer with your fast D-ends would cause havoc.... If ain't mistaken, going from memory only, Ole Miss and Arkansas were able to stop Lane's quick passing patterns, forcing bama to try plays which involved holding the ball a little longer and we know how those games turned out... ( Loss to Ole Miss... and a 14 to 13 victory for Bama).
I must admit though, their DB's lost the Ole Miss game though.
Perception doesn't always equal reality.
IF you are talking about that quick out pass that's behind the line of scrimmage Sims has thrown 55 completions like that this season. Completions over 10 yards? 54.
Wallace did throw for three TD's in Oxford this year. However, I would not lay the loss on the defensive backs. That loss, like a lot of those Bama has suffered over the last several years, came as a result of turnovers.
If there is one thing you can say about the Tide it's consistency. As example, since 2008 Bama is 68-1 when rushing for 150 yards or more. The loss against Ole Miss is the one outlier.
On the flip side, when you look at the 10 losses over the same period, you'll find that if the Tide has had two or more turnovers in those losses. There's one outlier here as well, the loss to UofSC in 2010.
Another constant in the Bama losses is QB play. In those 10 losses, only one has had a QB that didn't have a really hot hand—LSU, 2011, and we all know about the field goals in that game that were missed.
In the other nine games the QB has had an efficiency rating of at least 158. Four of those 10 quarterbacks had career high games. (Three were Heisman trophy winners, FWIW.)
If you look at these losses it's pretty simple: get the Bama team to turn the ball over at least twice, and have your quarterback have an outstanding day.
