Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

I always wondered where Vonn Bell came from to make that intereception.
OMG! Vonn Bell made one of the greatest plays in Ohio State history with that interception. I just saw an alternative angle video of that play. Bell was completely on the opposite side of the field and ran full speed and in one motion leaped into the air at the exact moment to intercept what looked like a wide open TD pass to the Alabama TE! He didn't "bait" Sims, he recognized the TE getting past the defense on that side and ran full speed from the opposite side to make that play! Still, in all my years of watching college football, that had to be one of the greatest interceptions ever. Bell was out wide covering Cooper on that play and Bama tried to trick our defense. It "almost" worked.
"Special" is inadequate to describe his play as a sophomore.

This is the "normal" video. I can't find the opposite field view video again.

I think the opposite field view is here. At 3:33, they show the regular view, and then the opposite field view at 3:42

I seem to remember Chris Gamble doing something similar against Purdue in the Holy Buckeye game in 2002. Purdue had a last gasp pass and Gamble left whoever he was covering and sprinted to the other side of the field to get the INT.

54:48. Not quite the same in regards to who was left open, but very similar with the defender leaving his man and just getting the ball. They could have gotten a first down and been at least at the 45, plus whatever run after the catch that was available.

Maybe I'm misreading your post, but had the Purdue WR made the catch, he would've fallen at the OSU 11 yard line with 45 seconds left. Donny Nickey totally whiffed on the coverage.

Well the Purdue guy he left wasn't going into the endzone, but now that I've seen the replay it looks even more similar than I remembered it - QB rolls right, receiver is down the right hand side and it was absolutely critical.

Awesome either way.
