Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

The ND/LSU game yesterday worries me a bit. Not because LSU sucked, but because they looked befuddled against a qb they didn't have tape on. LSU doesn't generally adjust as well as bama, but I don't want our D to look stupid in the first half...again.
Chavis is going to aTm... IDK if that had any affect on the game. One of the names on the short list is Kevin Steele.

He's sure sucking it up in the NFL, but you would watch the game and think: "What is the point of putting our defense out there?" I was impressed with his accuracy. He made a lot of mistakes in college, but he threw enough TDs that you forgot about them.

Marshall has not been that accurate of a passer. He only makes certain passes, it just so happens that he nailed those vertical routes. Coates caught the ball in stride. A lot of those were magnificent throws that would be hard for anyone to defend.

NFL and College are completely different games when it comes to QBs
But I think people also over-look that Evans was their best player, not Johnny Tapout. Quite a few NFL teams seemed to realize that, just not Tennessee Jimmy Jones after getting a sext message from Johnny Cocaine about how much he loves scat football.

Exactly one person among the ESPiN staff picks tOSU to win against Alabama, Austin Ward. And none pick us to win the NC. If this isn't some bulletin board material, I don't know what is.
I don't see much ground to disagree with this assessment. I think if you look at the track records of the four playoff teams to this point, OSU when playing their best is capable of going toe-to-toe with any of them. But my main concern with the OSU/Alabama matchup is what I perceive as OSU's relative lack of consistency. Alabama has been consistently good-to-excellent this year. OSU has been good-to-excellent at times and, if they play their best I believe they can go toe-to-toe with anyone. But they haven't done it with the consistency Alabama has, which is understandable given their injuries and number of new starters. For that reason alone, I think Alabama is the safer bet. Further consider a quarterback in his second start, and the uncertainty regarding level of play is increased. I'm cautiously optimistic, but OSU's lack of consistency over the past several weeks and months gives me pause.

Saban says Ohio State is best SEC team he has seen all year

There are still some who believe Ohio State doesn’t have much of a chance to hang with Alabama in the Sugar Bowl on Thursday, with the thought typically being the Buckeyes are an overhyped product of a weak Big Ten rather than a legitimately good team that comes from a weaker league.

Nick Saban doesn’t agree with those voices.

Alabama’s head coach made the media rounds on Tuesday in New Orleans and said that Ohio State is the best SEC team -– yes, you read that correctly –- the Crimson Tide have seen all year.

"These guys are going to look like the best SEC team that you saw all season long, if you're an Alabama fan," Saban said on his radio show. "They've got really good skill players outside and great speed. ... People view the Big Ten as not having great skill guys, not having great speed -- this is not true with Ohio State. They have all those things."
