The cupcakes-at-home approach maximizes revenue, gives the new players confidence and experience that comes from playing time, allows the coaches to assess what the new players can do under game situations, and is fun for fans who are curious about the new players, and want to follow their progress from the very beginning. What's not to like about all that? I think Coach Matta and AD Smith have a very sound plan.

He wouldn't have played much, being a former walk-on, but he would've had a role as a guy who's been around a while and seen Ohio State teams make long postseason runs.
Whatever knowledge he's gained in his years in Columbus can still be imparted to his younger teammates. But he won't get to play in those few moments that allow for coaches to empty their bench.
Thad Matta said on Monday that Lorbach, a product of St. Edward High School, won't play this season due to concussions. Matta said Lorbach suffered the third concussion of his career just before this season started.
"We're just gonna shut him down," Matta said. "He's still part of the team, but he's not even practicing with us now. He's at practice every day and he's a great kid."
Lorbach has been at every game, dressing in a sweatsuit for the season opener against Mount St. Mary's, and wearing a suit and tie for every game since. He ends a career that saw him play in 19 games over three seasons. He played in three games as a freshman on the team that made a run to the Elite Eight. Lorbach scored eight points in his career, including six against Bryant in the 2013-14 season.
