2015-16 Ohio State Quarterback Discussion

Why go deep? Because WRs are wide open with nothing stopping them from scoring. He didn't pick up 45 first downs on his own.

Remember what happened when we went deep 3 games ago. It gave us inconsistency and stalled drives. With a younger offensive line you have to offset their growing pains with play calling that wont give defenses time to get to the QB. Barrett's football IQ is being extremely under appreciated. His decisions are quick and accurate and he operates the read option very well. He gets the ball out of his hand quickly and has a short quick release I'm not discounting the OL or Elliot but it was the consistency of the intermediate passing game that spread the defense out in the 1st half and then the OL wore them out in the second half. The 1st downs are a team effort but with as fluid as JT distributes the ball to everyone on time and in stride, it makes the other aspects of the offense operate better.

I'm not talking about throwing deep into coverage. I'm talking about scanning the field and seeing people who literally are not being covered as they streak to the endzone at 4.3 speed.

In the passing game he certainly is. Not in the run game though.

I think the point is that we really can't tell yet.

Against a defense selling out to stop the pass JT and the O-Line showed little to no signs of competence.

If we're 9 games in and he's still at this pace, then by all means let's start talking about how much better he is than Brax.

He's definitely got the best "chops" we've seen since Troy, but we've yet to see what kind of resolve he has.

Haven't checked out his thread in a couple of weeks, and I don't know if it's been said before, but I am glad he holds on to the ball. He took a couple of sacks where I went, "Oh [Mark May]! He's going to lose the ball!" and then he held on to the rock. Glad he does.
Here I go drinking my #16 cool aid... if that was Braxton he loses one and maybe a few of those blind side sacks that JT got today. I'm with you lvbuckeye Braxton simply CANNOT do what JT can do throwing. Jt can't do what BM does running but then again he doesn't need to. No picks, some very tough throws like Jalins TD, Thomas' TD, Smiths' TD and the corner route to Vennett were throws Braxton cannot make as a junior/senior and we have someone doing it as a freshman. I know what BM bring to the table but I love what JT brings to the table. Again, 10 WRs caught passes today and if not for the exit in the 4th and the 2 TDs by the defense (basically 2 anyways) he throws for 300+ again.

Sitting JT next year would be a step back IMO. No way players like Jalin, dontre, Samuel, Zeke, Thomas, etc are as involved with Braxton. I'm sold.

If that was Braxton today, he still running on most of those plays. Barrett looks great throwing the ball, but how can you say he wouldn't make any of those throws as a senior? He's improved each year, no reason to think he'll suddenly regress.

And why wouldn't players be as involved? OSU is clearly running different plays with (more importantly) different players this year. Especially in the passing game. Thomas, Marshall and Smith add a lot that was missing last year, and Wilson is a different player. Not sure why you think they'd revert back to the 2013 playbook.

I'm all for the best player starting, and Barrett looks great, but I don't understand why anyone would be so quick to dismiss the 2 time POY next year.

Braxton involves less because he can do so much with his legs. With JT though if you stop his running he can still hit the pass. I have no proof that Braxton couldn't do what JT is doing if he were playing but in THREE years he didn't so I'd imagine it wouldn't be a whole lot different. We can all agree that Braxton his a much better runner while JT is equally as better throwing the ball. However JT is a better runner IMO then Braxton is as a thrower. I feel for that reason JT is able to include others more often because simply he has to because unlike #5 he isn't going 70 yards on a broken play.

JT has played two fantastic ballgames in a row. This is the best I've seen out of the offense in the Meyer era from a distribution standpoint. I think JT has done a phenomenal job, this is a huge testament to him as well as the development of the skilled positions around him. I'm not going to try to look into the crystal ball, but how interesting of a decision would Meyer have if he had to choose between a two time Big Ten player of the year and the returning POY. Barrett is on that trajectory.
