2015-16 Ohio State Quarterback Discussion

1999, 6-6
1989, 6-4-1
1988, 4-6-1

Worst team in 100 years? LOL.
Those first two examples were outstanding.
Barrett is smashing Braxton's stats from '12 B1G OPY, and '13 B1G OPY. That's good enough for me.
Against absolute garbage (and with more weapons in the passing game). Braxton has his limitations and we're all thrilled to see a more well rounded QB thriving, but let's wait until he plays someone with a pulse.

Guys let's try making this positive about JT without bagging on Braxton as much. There isnt a person 1 who didnt lose sleep from the first moment they heard Braxton went down for the season, probably including JT himself. You dont replace Braxton Miller you move on from it and JT has helped tremendously in that regard. I'd rather focus on how well he's playing and see where he can go than knock down any of the accomplishments of a great player, student and representative like Braxton Miller is.

If Miller is able to come back, there's no way he doesnt see the field. There is probably some change to where and how but you can't keep an athlete like him on the sidelines.

"Choose positivity!"

Maybe in 9 months, his shoulder still won't be able to hold up. Maybe in December, he will graduate and transfer to Wisconsin. Maybe he returns, wins the Heisman and a national championship while JT holds a clipboard. Lots of if's and but's..

I think there is a significant difference between JT, Johnny Football & Skrong.

No, the difference is obvious. He's definitely of higher character. But then again, so was Ernie Davis.

You know I'm not trying to start an argument. I mean it is possible that JT will suffer some bumps and bruises against teams like MSU. I guess my issue is the whole "teams with a pulse" talk. Seems like we get the best shot from everyone we play. Even if it cripples them for awhile afterwards. I'd imagine that tOSU is circled on more calenders than anyone on ours is.

Minnesota? Illinois? Indiana? Rutgers? Penn St? No pulses here. Michigan? If Gary F Nova could play Michigan's secondary all season he'd have 4800 yards, 36 TDs, and 0 INTs. Now they're minus Green, while Funchess is ready to put 10-cent stamps on games just to make sure he gets to next spring with two healthy knees.

Every team remaining except for Michigan St has flatlined and should have a DNR.

Hypothesizing how he'd do when he faces a real defense is fine, but there are only two real defenses he could possibly face until January: MSU and Northwestern in the B1G CCG. I don't see how Barrett doesn't smash records barring injury, the yips, or the staff consciously taking the air out of the ball and leaning on the RBs.

as i sit back and watch everyone attack each other all i can think about is WTF.. how lucky is this program to have someone like Guiton last year, and to have Barrett this year. hell. the time that Jones was in last Saturday, made me feel pretty comfortable .. we currently have a Freshman sitting high in the QBR list for the entire country 5th in passing TDs. all in company with the projected Heisman winner from Oregon. I for one am damn thankful for this due to the way the O-line and the running game struggled in the first few games.. personally i want Miller back as an athlete.. whether he runs, throws, flips, i dont care. he could contribute in some way to having, most likely, an offense in the top 2 or 3 in the country. it wouldnt be smart for him to leave his senior yr. he would leave behind way to much in Columbus and plus the fact that he has a kid. just my $.02

I think the fact that he has a kid, would be a reason he leaves. I don't realistically believe it'll happen, but the financial burden of a child outweighs getting gold pants, and hoisting trophies, that stuff is more for fans...
And in regards to Barrett I agree with everything yoy said about him. and OSU is blessed to be able to make the decision next year between these Two

I only have 1 point to make, and 1 observation to make.

The point of JT playing garbage defenses is very valid but lets not pretend Braxton hasn't played a bunch of weak defenses as well. When Braxton has played good defenses like Wisconsin in 12 and then Clemson/MSU in 13 the passing numbers just haven't been there. Jt is doing through the air what braxton did on the ground against poor competition and that's pump up his stats. I don't like the competition argument at all because neither thus far have done a thing when it has counted most.

I think bottom line is most of us clamoring for JT are afraid of going back to a one man show. At least I am because that typically is easier to stop then being attacked from all angles. Either way we are golden and I look forward to seeing JT develop the rest of the way.

Yep, because Miami OH, UCF, Cal and UAB were murderer's row...

KG threw to seven different receivers against Cal last year. I guess he had better receivers too.

Or MAYBE we have a guy this year who reads defenses better, goes through his progressions better, and throws the ball better.

a spectacular strawman for a Braxton vs Barrett discussion. Very useful.

Cal was just as bad as the last three defenses faced this year. How does that prove anything about Barrett's play?
Or MAYBE we have a guy this year who reads defenses better, goes through his progressions better, and throws the ball better.
And another fun strawman! Even better that we aren't disagreeing whatever on that topic.

What we disagree about is whether accomplishing that against bad teams means very much at all.

It has us stoked for the future, but he struggled a lot against a mediocre va tech defense. Which is what should happen most of the time for a freshman but the discussion is whether he has supplanted the most explosive qb in the country.

Lest we also forget how Baus played early in the season and we now all get a chuckle when we see the 'passing chart' and make jokes about being hit by balls as late as last week... This is not to draw any comparison to the current, other than to suggest that a well rounded evaluation after sufficient conference play will be the ultimate test required to make an informed decision. That, in combination with the health of Brax when he's able to come back.

Personally, I see things in JT's play that shows significantly greater maturity than his time as a starter would suggest he should have, and I am therefore quite optimistic for his future in the program. Frankly, I've had more fun watching him as QB than any QB since Troy.
