2015-16 Ohio State Quarterback Discussion

The WMU game was this year:

Jones: 19/33 for 288 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, QBR of 71.9
Barrett: 1/3 for 0 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, QBR of 1.8

If turnovers are what you're hanging your hat on (there's little else, these days, it seems), I'd think you'd want the guy who threw 1 pick while tossing 33 passes instead of the guy who managed to throw a pick on one of his 3 passes.

Again your argument falls short. JT didnt get a chance to throw 33 passes so you can't assume that he would have thrown another interception in the next 30 throws. I honestly don't care who the QB is as long as the offense puts up a lot of yards and points and is able to hit stride come Big 10 season.

Barrett underthrew his receiver terribly on his first ball of the day. Then, on his second ball, he threw a pick.

1 under throw compared to multiple. How exactly does this prove your point from one game? Without Devin Smith, Cardale hasnt hit a huge percentage of his deep passes. I would be interested in seeing how many passes over 35 yards that he has it when he hasnt targeted Devin Smith.

There have only been four games this year, my man. Both QBs were good against VT, both were putrid against Hawaii and NIU. One was good and one was bad against WMU. There have been no other games this year.

NIU:

Jones: 4/9 for 36 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 6.3 QBR

Barrett: 11/19 for 97 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 16.8 QBR

Barrett had a much better line in that game. He at least managed to get a TD.

I'm not going to argue over which is a better QB. My original point was that each camp is using last year performances as proof for who should be starting this year. It's either, "JT was amazingly efficient last season, broke Drew Brees' record, and finished 5th in the Heisman voting," or its "Jones beat all 3 Heisman finalists, curb stomped wisconsin, and won the National Champipnship."

There's nothing more to debate guys. Cardale is the guy and I'm at peace with it after seeing him perform better that last game. Let's be honest if Cardale leads a few of those guys on deep balls they are touchdowns. We would be talking about a 5td game with damn near 400-500 yards passing and you take away his INT.

everyone knows I love JT but his INT the last game was another bad int. Deep ball picks don't concern me as that's the risk you take

I'm convinced buckeyesin07 is Cardale Jones lol

I don't really care who the QB is, so long as that person gives OSU the best chance to win. Up until this weekend, my argument never was that Cardale deserves to be the starter; rather, it was that neither Cardale nor JT has, despite having the opportunity to do so, proven that he deserves the starting job. I therefore didn't (and still do not) understand the groundswell of support for JT, and how many here on BP seem to think Urban's making a mistake in going with Cardale over JT. Questioning Urban's decision--as many here have done--just seems ridiculous. And stubbornly hanging onto the position is all the more ridiculous when Urban's decision, as evidenced by the WMU game, is shown to have been the correct one.

in my opinion id like to see a breakdown of JT stats the last couple of games before he got hurt last year as i felt the offense was starting to get stagnant and his play so far this year (and yes i know practice reps and game reps havent been the same) hasnt led me to believe otherwise. cardale needs to stop turning the ball over but i was very encouraged by what i saw saturday. the drive before halftime he had some nice completions and it shouldve resulted in points if not for us having already burned 2 timeouts earlier in the half. oh and the intentional grounding call was BOGUS

At this point I don't care who it is I just would like to see a quarterback that provides a spark to this offense. Watching the games recently you see zero spark. It's like they are going through three motions with no energy or happiness.

Where is that big Cardale smile we saw against Wisconsin? Where's that excitement and command after his big plays that help get the crowd and team fired up? It's only been 4 weeks and the QB's look like they've been at it for 4 months.
This is a good point too. I liked that the coaches went no-huddle with some tempo with Cardale. Something to get some enthusiasm. OSU at minimum should be trying to get 70 plays a game and at least wearing these lower teams out.

It's just been an overall lethargic start, at least with the 3 home games. My dad and I both kind of sat there at the end of the game and said, well that was another boring one. Games are just moving along with little purpose and intensity in my view.

Need to find energy and enthusiasm in Big Ten play for the last 2/3rds of the season. The rest will come.

I noticed that as well. I think losing JT may have ended up helping us last year because just as teams figured us out we changed dramatically with having to ride CJ to the trophy. I firmly believe we lose the Bama game with JT because Cardale from a size stand point did beautifully standing tall in the pocket something JT maybe is less prone to doing

69 for 107 comp/att, 978 yards, 11TDs 3Ints,
66 rushes for 442 yards and 5 TDs.

Accounted for 16 TDs in those last 4 games that people are inquiring about and average of 355 total yards. Passing rating in the 150's and QB rating in the mid 80's because of a crazy Indiana game.

Did teams figure the OSU offense out or did every team on the schedule realize that if you don't key on JT Barrett the game was over before it started?

I'm ok with Cardale starting and will love it if he blows it up. Only thing I questioned about his play was his decision making. If that and his leadership imroves, sky is the limit for sure.

Just for comparison purposes and to keep the balance here are Cardale's last 3 games totaled:

46 for 74 comp/att, 754 yards 5TDs 2 INT
46 rushes 90 yards 1 TD. 288 Total yards per game, 6 total TD's.

Obviously different competition and more at stake but some people would say the MSU and scUM games were more than Wisky, depends on how you look at it I guess. The troubling thing was the number of fumbles that Cardale had in those 3 games. We lost 4 but fumbled at least 5 more that we got back in those games.

Devin and Zeke had their dander up in all of those games when you look at it though most people remember the last 3 much more vividly. The difference really is the number of names on the stat sheet between the two. Either way we should be able to push on and get firing on all cylinders before MSU or even PSU.

Let's look ahead from now on and just relish the past for these guys.

Seems like at least 80% of fans are adamant that JT should be starting. My question is, why do those people think Urban Meyer, the best coach in the country, is starting Cardale Jones?

Because he's in love with his 6'5" 250lb frame and cannon arm, just like everyone else.

The thing is, Ohio State didn't win the playoff because of Cardale. They won out because the defense got off the field every damn third down, and Zeke put up numbers that project out to 2550 yards and 30 TDs over an eleven game schedule. Now I think Eze is a fantastic running back, but those kind of numbers are getting into Barry Sanders circa 1988 territory. As good as he is, I don't think he's on the same level as Barry Freaking Sanders. Over 15 games, we're looking at 3480 rushing yards. Troy won the Heisman with 400 fewer PASSING yards.
