2014 Week 6 CFB Open Thread

Oregon has not had an unbeaten/untied season since 1895 when they were 4-0-0.

They have not had an unbeaten season since 1916 when they were 7-0-1.

They have never had a recognized national championship.

They have only 13 conference titles in 98 years.

They have only four top-5 finishes and four other top-10 finishes.

Their overall record is 620-472 (.568 winning percentage), good for 44th place in FBS.

Not elite.

And with their oline problems this year, they appear to be less that great-nevermind elite. ...and yet they beat Sparty.

Let chaos ensue this week...Ole Miss over Bama. LSU over Auburn. Mississippi State over A&M. Stanford over ND. Texas over Baylor. Nebraska over MSU. TCU over Oklahoma. Well, half of those would be cool anyways.

Definitely starting to look likely that Stanford wins in South Bend this weekend. Flu bug hit the team early this year, lot of starters have been sick this week, they're going to be sluggish Saturday. Same thing happened against Pitt in 2012.

Since 2008 they have finished in the top 10 every season except 1 and they were 11 that year. Citing shit from the 1800s is Michigan behavior. Historically sure they haven't been elite but recently(what matters) they have been somewhere between great and elite.

That being said I think their current coach is coasting along on the recent popularity and what Chip Kelly built. (I also feel the same about Gary Andersen)

So six years of greatness-almost-eliteness. Wow. I'm so impressed.

Oregon is just another pretender like Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Boise State, and all of the other "next big things" of college football.

Re: Michigan had the right coach

Like I mentioned before, I believe RR is a very good coach, but he wasn't a good fit here. If we just took September records, he probably would be winning National Championships. But unfortunately, every time we entered B1G play, his offense turned into garbage. He's in a much better situation in Arizona and is proving that in the right environment, he is a hell of a HC.That's perhaps been the most impressive aspect of the Hoke Magic--he's actually found dubious records and proud streaks to break that even RR didn't get to in his time here.

I mean, who'd have thought it possible. Well, other than our visionary AD.

:slappy:

Add all of those September Natties to all of those September Heisman Trophies and you undoubtedly have the best team to ever play football..........in September.

I'm not saying that their ESPN-Nike Hype train won't die off but it's probably too soon to dismiss them. And once again I don't think helfrich is that good and I think he's going to Hoke their program.
