The best teams win the tournament to play in a championship game. 59-0 tells me that some school in Columbus, Ohio is the best team in that conference, no matter what happened on the field earlier in the rest of the conference that year. That whole "best team didn't play" mantra is BS, IMHO. If that were the case, then Baylor and TCU would have a leg to stand on. But since they didn't play a true conference championship game this year, they don't have that argument.

Not totally disagreeing with you sir, and I'll admit that Urbs has been the man since he's been there. That being said, and the 2012 season aside (cause that was BS that two teams couldn't even play in the CCG, and we STILL got slap assed by Bucky), Urbs won his first CCG this season. Well deserved - and it was fairly obvious the best team in conference this year.
That being said - Minny made a game of it. If we and Bucky can get our collective s**t together, the West can represent as well.

You're right. Let's all go out and buy Michigan jerseys and cheer for them, based on the specious argument that that would mean an extra $1,000 to OSU in the way of TV revenue.

So, you believe the 2011 Giants were the best in the NFC, and really the world that year, despite having a 9-7 record and being outscored 394 to 400 during the regular season, just because they got hot/lucky in a 12 team tournament at the end of the year?

Yep, I'd say so.
The same way that most folks in the media are saying, "Oh, that Ohio State team hasn't played anybody, that's why they're able to win with their 2nd and 3rd string QBs."
Be prepared to defend Buckeye Honor if you guys win the championship. Cause you'll have plenty of this same stuff coming your way.

I'd think a Nebraska fan, if anyone, would understand the strength of the 2012 OSU team, but maybe I'm wrong. That aside, Urban's coached in 24 conference games since arriving and he's won all 24. What more needs to be said?

Possibly the only sport that has historically ended the season with the "best" team as "champion" has been pre-BCS CFB. Everyone else gets a playoff champ, which is great and admirable of course, but is not exactly the same as being "the best". I give you 8-seeded 1985 NCAA tourney champ Villanova.

You misunderstand me - I'm saying that it's BS that the 2012 team didn't get a chance to represent the B1G in the championship game based on some BS from the NCAA. That, in my opinion, is an example of the best team in the conference not winning a championship.
To me, each football game is individual. A season can be defined as the sum total of each game, for the most part. But on any given day - you can win or lose.
That's why, last season, when everybody (including myself) thought you guys were going to baby seal club TSUN, they gave you guys one hell of a game (probably the best I'd seen all year long). That's why when everybody in the media thought that Melvin Gordon was going to go all thermonuclear on you guys' defense - he didn't even finish with 100 yards rushing and they got pounded.
Long term success against an opponent is one thing - but playing big games when they matter is another? Good teams get there, but the great ones hoist the trophy at the end of the game.

I would argue soccer is the best. You look at La Liga and the Premier League. Each team (20 teams total) plays each other with a home and away for a total of 38 games with no playoffs. The team with the most points at the end of the year is the champions. Very simple.

I understood your point and the 1985 wildcats is a solid example. The Hoyas would have killed them in a 7 game series. Just look at last year when the 8 and 9 seed were playing for a national title. NCAA March Madness is a very fun to watch but all it takes is one bad game and you are out. NFL is another example. The same with baseball. How many wild card teams have won it all in baseball? It diminishes the 162 game season in my opinion.
