2014 TSUN Football News

I gotta put an end to the revisionist history I'm seeing a lot this morning. Rich Rodriguez was never going to work at Michigan. He was terrible from the start, and only got worse. Not worse record....just worse at being the coach of Michigan. Hoke, for as much of a cluster fuck that hire has become, was a HUGE upgrade over RR. It's not even close.

I disagree. RR didn't succeed at Michigan because that dumb fan base and the university didn't support what he was doing, in part because he wasn't one of them. He was a good coach before, at WVU, and he's been a good coach after, at Arizona. There's nothing magical about the Big Ten such that he can't succeed in the Big Ten given the proper support (there is, after all, a popular thread around these parts devoted to how bad the Big Ten sucks). A sub .500 MAC-level washout isn't better than RR.

Eh. He was a good coach at WVU coincidentally around the time all the good teams decided to leave the conference. He's a good coach now because he's going 8-5 at a school that doesn't go 8-5 regularly.

Don't get me wrong....I do think he's doing well out there and I'm rooting for him just because that's another dagger to twist in the backs of Michigan fans. But as you stated, Michigan was doing their part to prevent him from succeeding there. Another year wasn't going to change that.

Does Michigan make it to (and win) the Sugar Bowl (or Orange or whatever bowl it was) in 2011 with RichRod? Or does Hoke deserve more credit than I give him?
Does RR bring a real DC?

Oh shit....if they had kept him one more year, he could have beaten us. Wasn't that our Tressel-less year? Then they would have been stuck with him for another 4 years

Let's get this straight...

He was a great success:

Fans loved him...

He got all the hot chicks...

He taught his fans true life lessons, politely listening as Tressel explained how he'd have him by the short and curlies...

He eptiomized everything that you want a "Michigan Man" to be...

BRING HIM BACK!

Lets not pretend we didn't poo-poo the dickrod hiring at scUM (and totally call his failure). I think he would have done better than what Hoke is currently doing at scUM given the time, but I still don't believe dickrod is a B1G kind of coach. He never would have got enough borderline kids in there to succeed like he did at WVU and currently appears to be doing at Arizona. Better than Hoke? Certainly. But would he have the same success at tsun as he is now in Tucson? Highly unlikely. He was a poor fit culturally. That's on tsun for being stuck in the stone age. But they really had no choice but to can him after 2010...especially after the savage beating to Miss. State. They should have simply known better than hiring a <.500 coach just because he was a "m*ch*g*n man" for coaching their DL a decade earlier.

total byproduct of osu's unique situation that year. and even then, they were lucky to beat osu. a typical osu team slaps them around and relegates them to playing at 11:00am on new year's day and getting ran by a mid level SEC team.
