2014 TSUN Football News

You didn't think he was solid when the refs gave him that Sugar Bowl against the worst BCS team ever? Sure.

I didn't. Go back to some of my older posts. It's like you think for me. You thought I supported Rich Rod when I never did which was laughable. I made that one really clear to everybody that I never liked that guy. I know you like to give me a hard time, but seriously you don't think for me. I made it clear that Hoke wasn't the answer if we wanted to be an elite program. I figured our ceiling was 9-3 seasons under him and he is even fucking that up.

Serious question, who is the answer? I can't see the Harbaughs dropping from the NFL. Les coming home? Do you actually look at someone outside of the TTUN family again (ie RRod)? And if that is the case, do you look at top assistant coaches at power schools or someone from a lower level? Just curious on thoughts from a wolverine.

I honestly have no idea. I don't see Jim or John coaching Michigan. It's a possibility, but the % is very low and I believe they are set on the NFL. I'm getting tired of this Michigan man crap. Just get a damn good coach. Who gives a fuck where he is from. I think DB should look to the outside by hiring a "top" coordinator at a big school. I just don't see Michigan getting a superstar head coach right now. DB should definitely try. However, he might have to focus on a Kirby Smart or a Narduzzi. However, going that route makes me nervous because of Muschamp. It will be interesting, but I think Hoke is gone by the end of the year. Michigan can't win on the road and have regressed since he has been here.

Hoke won't be fired unless they lose to Ohio State and the Spartans very badly. Their offense is terrible, the defense is terrible but there aren't a lot of alternatives right now and the AD is very much invested in Hoke.

TSUN's problem is that the image of a football powerhouse has been abused for nearly a decade, despite recruiting very well. It is going to be very hard to recover.

The AD is disliked every bit as much as Hoke. He has ruined the brand of Michigan (just like he ruined freaking pizza). Rich Rod made the program a joke but the brand itself still had some cache and value to fans. Forcing legendary jerseys onto bad players, jacking up ticket costs during historic lows in the program and engaging in all sorts of canned gimmicks is not the way to appeal to an elitist fanbase.

Hoke does not have to lose badly to his rivals, he just has to lose, which he always does on the road. Frankly Hoke had to beat both of them to feel safe heading into the offseason and losing to Utah just made that a prerequisite to have a chance at sticking around.

The difference now (versus 2008) is there is plenty of talent on hand. While some may have been overrated (like their glut of OL, Derrick Green or Dymonte Thomas), the talent level is still right there as a top-15 program. Dantonio & Narduzzi would win a national championship with their talent in 2 years. If not for highway robbery in south bend, they probably win one last year with big east level recruiting.

We have said since day one of the RR hiring that they are absolutely married to the next guy(Hoke) for 5 years minimum and I still say that holds true.

Coaches are a tight bunch, they talk and you don't get the elite ones to come anywhere that has been firing head coaches every 3-4 years. They way they went about their business with RR had a lot to do with all the trouble they had in the search that resulted in Hoke.

Plus look at the specifics of the situation as they stand right now, Brandon is disliked but in no danger of losing his job. He's the prototypical bad CEO, blind to the realities of the market and too stubborn to ever admit he's wrong. Being wrong and stubborn, as they say in the gambling world, is a bad combination. Brandon is personally vested in Hoke.

I don't think they fire Hoke this year personally unless the wheels come completely off. 7 wins and I think he stays.

I think you look at top head coaches from 'smaller name' school that has performed well in a power conference. Sure, Kirby Smart sounds like a good idea, but taking a d coordinator right now seems risky. The man does know how to recruit and does bring a nice resume, though. I'm thinking more along the lines of Dan Mullen, David CutCliffe, Mike Gundy or Gary Patterson. Could they even snag a bigger name like Art Briles or Todd Graham? I even kind of like Chris Peterson if he has a good year at Washington. But I think Mark Stoops would be the best hire they could make right now. Good coach, he's a defense first guy, played in the big ten, and successfully has made the leap from d coordinator to head coach. Plus he's a damn good recruiter. With recruiting being such a huge part of college ball, I don't like going for an NFL guy, unless he has a lot of clout (which means why would he leave). They just need to pony up and get the 6mil+ offers going out to some big names. Now isn't the time to screw around with a coordinator and hope he can make the transition to HC, need a HC that has been successful in a good conference.

I think 4 years is enough when you got periodically worse every year. 11-2 (BCS bowl win), 8-5 (junk bowl loss), 7-6 (junk bowl loss). I think they bottomed out at 7-6, and might get back to 8 wins. He's got 3-4 more losses on the schedule, and going into a bowl game at 6-6 and he's gone. Plus in 3 of the potential 5 or 6 losses, against their 3 biggest rivals, he's gonna get the wheels blown off. I predict him to lose by 28+ against the spartans and the buckeyes (both road games). Could lose potentially to both the pedsters and the newbie rutgers. Maryland isn't even looking like a sure fire win. They could finish at/near the bottom of the conference.
