2014 SEC Discussion and Division Races

>> The NCAA
Not sure what you're saying here.

The irony, as I see it, is that the NCAA was created by the colleges to develop a code of behaviors that would apply evenly to all schools as the schools had clearly demonstrated that they could not do it themselves.

While it seems to me that one of the problems with the NCAA has been an inability to apply sanctions evenly, let's not loose sight of the fact that some of the schools have done all they can to keep the NCAA from doing its job - the very job the schools created.

Yeah, at this point fuck the NCAA. Let the Pedophiles out of jail, but go after a couple hundred bucks worth of autographs. The entire thing is upside down...
It's easy to blame the NCAA is my point. Why is no one concerned that the schools aren't either supporting the organization and the sanctions it imposes or shutting it down and reforming it to meet current circumstances?

This reminds me of when my students at Moeller bitched about the dress code and their parents would run in to defend junior when he got in trouble over the code - the very same parents who told us that one of the things they appreciated was that we had a dress code and enforced it.

Because I think for the most part a lot of the big schools don't want the NCAA to really "do their job" when it comes to things like this anymore, despite any public-facing talk to the contrary. I think they want the NCAA to do enough to keep these things on the down low and out of sight, out of mind. I also think it has a lot to do with the football and basketball programs being the lifeline for the rest of the student athletes, and knowing if they really cut things down a lot of programs at a lot of schools end up gone. The beast needs to be fed, and they don't know how to change the diet.

They only want you to enforce it on the others though :)

Exactomundo.

I hate to see the loss of Olympic sports, aka non-revenue sports, but better to have college sports played by real college students than to continue the farce of a NFL/NBA minor league fielding teams of professional athletes.

IMO a big part of the problem is that there is no other show in town for football. CFL and Arena don't really fill that void.
NFL basically forces everyone to play by NCAA system for 3 years.
Basketball players have some more options out of HS. Rarely draft, but there's Europe and they can get by with 1 or 2 years in NCAA.
Baseball of course has the minors.
