2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

Context... seems lost on some people.
The entire conversation is about people rating teams based on where they were ranked weeks ago. Being the first of 3 teams to beat Oklahoma thus far is not an accomplishment.

At this point I think all 1-loss teams from the SEC are going. The poll will come out in a few hours... and I fully expect Miss St. to be 5, and quite possibly Alabama 1. Hope I'm wrong though. If/when Miss St. beats Ole Miss w/o Treadwell, they'll jump over TCU.
I think you are right about the polls tonight but I believe that a 1 loss OSU after the B1G Championship game will leap the Big12 or SEC west runner up. Just my IMO.

I disagree pretty strongly. I doubt very highly that 2 SEC teams make the final 4 if we win out.
If Alabama had beat MSU by 3 touchdowns, I would agree, but the problem is that the game's final score was closer than the actual game. So I could see the committee saying, "meh, these two are so close, they both deserve a shot - Ohio State shouldn't have a shot because Big Ten = weak."

You could be right, but I really don't think that will happen, there seems to be as positive buzz about the Bucks right now based upon what I'm reading here that folks have reposted from national media.

And hey, I'm normally the pessimistic one here!

Ohio State is 6th....for those holding onto hope that they'll make the playoffs I wouldn't book your tickets quite yet.
To be honest, I thought we'd only move up to 7th and that Baylor wouldn't be punished for a bye week. Both Van Pelt and Kanell talked up Ohio State big time. My thought is that if we blow out Indiana and Michigan, and then beat Wisconsin relatively decisively in the B1G CCG, there's no way in hell we get left out. I think Mississippi State will either lose again or at least struggle enough to fall a few spots. That puts us at #5 behind Alabama, Oregon, FSU, and TCU, and one of them will stumble before all is said and done...

Ohio State is poised to jump TCU and Mississippi State IF they take care of business in every game in convincing fashion. If they stagger to the line without dominant wins I don't see them making the jump. This includes the potential B1GCCG against Wisconsin.

Buckeyes are doing what they need to do - beating the teams on their schedule.

Buckeye offense looks unstoppable lately, and that has to be a factor for the committee to consider.

Buckeyes have a player who is top-5 in the country on offense (J.T. Barrett) and another who is top-5 in the country on defense (Joey Bosa). That has to be a factor.

Buckeyes also have a top-5 head coach and that is a factor.

If you're on the committee, you want to look for teams that have the talent/coaching to beat anyone in the country on any given day. Ohio State has that.

Plus there's that whole money thing that I mentioned earlier.

Just keep winning.

I think it's close to a for sure thing they'll jump TCU if Wiscy stays with 2 losses

the fun/interesting part is do they take a Miss St team who didn't win their own division in the conf, or a B1G champ
I think the fact that tOSU will have the opportunity to play a quality team on Dec. 6 vs. sitting at home will make the difference. TCU plays Iowa St. that day and Baylor beating KSU sitting at home shouldn't be enough to jump the Bucks. I like where we sit. Just take care of business.

I'm thoroughly convinced that the only reason Auburn is still ranked as high as they are is because the committee is still hoping for a top 10 showdown between the Tigers and Bama. Any other reason makes no sense.

Ecstatic that the Buckeyes moved up. Now I'm absolutely convinced that if we win out, we're in.
