2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

It is really good...by far the best conference division in the country. Still, they don't have the top four teams in the country. Auburn and Mississippi are significantly overrated. Mississippi State is legit. Alabama is slightly overrated but still a great team.
I think Auburn is pretty good actually. I think they will beat Miss and Bammer.

I just was looking at the schedule because everyone talks about the "quality wins"

Auburn - KSU, maybe LSU
MSU - Auburn, maybe LSU
Ole Miss - Bama
Bama - WVU

I just dont see these huge "quality wins" for the SEC West... unless you consider everyone in the SEC west as a quality team... Arky & Aggy.... Aggy has propelled MSU/Miss/Bama into the title fight by beating up on the "little sister of the poor" and USCe.... I guess you can consider LSU, but they are a freakin mess and might turn it around... Bottom line... the SEC west maybe be "tough" but its not like they are playing a combination of the 85 Bears & 00 Rams every week as some would have you believe.

No it's not the 85 Bears, but 4 of them seem pretty good.

Not sold on either MS school. Both had butter soft OOC schedules and vaunted in rankings based on beating Aggie.
And that's where the bias lies... how that whole situation with Aggie and SCe played out resulting in several schools jumping everyone... and such bollocks as "defeated 3 top-10 teams in a row"

The way Auburn jumped Sparty in the polls this week also shows obvious bias. Auburn struggled to beat, again, SCe. MSU rolled against Hoke.
What changed for Auburn to jump them? Ole Miss lost... drop 1 SEC school, time to fill that slot with the next one on the list.

I disagree with you relative to Auburn and Mississippi being "significantly" overrated, but your take is certainly reasonable. I think Steele's omitting Florida State from the top four is odd, to say the least.

I thought the FSU omission was odd too. He also stated that his contact in Vegas has a similar top 5. ...not that their opinion is any more valid than another person's, but I do generally respect Steele and know he and his team watch just about everything.

I saw that KSU/Auburn game in person.

KSU is a legit team. They're my pick to win the BXII.

I think of the teams in the SEC West Auburn's schedule is clearly the toughest.

If they win out they would have the best claim to the playoff by a mile, including wins over a good Ole Miss team, a good Bama team and 2 wins (probably) over a good UGA.

And he's from Cleveland, and a Buckeye fan.

Face it, it's not just about bias here. The S-E-C West is really, really good. With that said, I think the B1G East is much better than the S-E-C East at the moment.
I'm not really arguing, SEC west is probably the best half a conference in football. Pac 12 (either side) could rival. I will ask, though, which SEC west teams a quality win against a non-sec team?

Miss St: South Alabama, UAB or Southern Miss. UAB was actually one of their closest games.

Auburns good OOC win was.... Kansas State, not a bad team, but K State lost by 6 in a game where they dominated Auburn and missed 3 short field goals and threw an INT in the end zone leaving 12 points off the board. Other than that Louisiana Tech and San Jose State

Ole Miss: Boise State, Louisiana Lafayette, and Memphis.

Bama: West Virginia, Florida Atl and Southern Miss (again). WVU was a good win. They are a solid team, but it wasn't dominant.

aTm had Lamar, Rice and SMU

Arky had UAB (again), Nichols St, Northern Illinois, and Texas Tech, with a fairly dominant win.

So between the 6 they played 3 Power 5 OOC teams, a close win, a shoulda lost, and the best quality win actually went to Arky.

um, pretty sure LSU is still in the west.
our best OOC win is just a B1G school*, so it doesn't change the argument much.

*sorry, had to take the open shot while it was there

We gotta check with the Ole Ball coach on this one, but I am sure he would say these are great wins against premier competition...
