2014 NFL (Well, Browns, so, sorta "NFL") Draft Thread

What no?! Arm chair QB's are the underated scouting talent in the NFL! Those head coaches and scouts doing this for years and years clearly don't have the knowledge that some hater has who hates Manziel simply bc he is cocky and makes unusual plays!

Had we been smart and taken Watkins instead of once again using the "next year" strategy, this Gordon suspension that likely happens wouldn't hurt so badly. Instead, we get 0 WR's and now there is a lot of concern for the upcoming season and our very questionable passing game.

Browns dropped the ball on this draft, today killed us. Great we got a RT.... he can protect our QB when they throw to... oh wait? Great we got a RB who can help out Tate which is fine and dandy, so then they can take some pressure off our QB who can throw to... oh wait? Common thing amongst the Browns year after year we ignore WR, we FINALLY make a bold move (which I praised) taking Gordon, look the kid is insanely talented (not that smart apparently) and now... back to ignoring WR for a long time again.
Soooo....the "experts" are only stupid when you disagree with them?

Experts are wrong all the time... have to be, but this wasn't a matter of thinking Watkins was good or bad like you guys were saying about Manziel if he is pro worthy or not. This was about risk reward in passing Watkins for a first next year... which is dumb if the knew about this upcoming suspension.

Although experts can definitely get things wrong on talent evaluation too, this is shear common sense stupidity

I never said anything about Jon Football's talent or lack thereof.

Regardless, you're the one being an armchair GM. Maybe they're going after a wr next year while Gordon and JF gel this year sitting out.

Waiting is dumb. We always wait. It's always next year with this franchise. We have a core in place, made some great FA moves, had a chance to get the best WR since AJ Green knowing Gordon may be out, and passed. Dumb move every time.

Do you really think the Browns are one wr away from the playoffs while JF rides the pine? If waiting is stupid, drafting a QB you don't plan on playing this year is pretty dumb.

No I doubt we are 1 WR away. Doesn't mean you don't try and win as much as you can. We signed older guys to replace Ward and Dqwell, Thomas isn't going to be patient forever either. I don't think improving upon a 5-11 record and showing positive steps is too hard to ask. Drafting any QB we shouldn't plan on starting them this year bc we don't know yet what we have in Hoyer. Plus in the past drafting a QB and forcing him into action has failed us.

It's always next year with this team, we made the great trade with ATL years ago to go and screw it up in the draft. We learn that our star WR is facing a possible full year ban and yet we pass on the best WR prospect since AJ Green to wait again. That's all Cleveland does is wait and wait.

Just heard we knew about this before the draft.. AND WE STILL PASSED ON WATKINS AND EVANS? wtf...
1. Maybe the reports are false or misleading.

2. Maybe the Browns realize that a proven way to win in the NFL is a strong running game and defense, with solid quarterback play.

Seattle won the Super Bowl with the #26 passing attack, the #4 rushing attack, #1 scoring defense, and #1 yardage defense

San Francisco went 12-4 and lost in the NFC Title Game with the #30 passing attack, the #3 rushing attack, #3 scoring defense, #5 yardage defense

Carolina went 12-4 and made the playoffs with the #29 passing attack, the #11 rushing attack, the #2 scoring defense, and the #2 yardage defense

Unless you have a Brady or a Manning or a Rogers or a Brees, your best way to win is to build up the running game and the defense and to have an efficient QB

Here's a stat for you: In 2013, Josh Gordon had more receiving yards (1,646) and touchdowns (9) than the entire wide receiving corps for the San Francisco 49'ers (1,627 yards, 8 TD's). And those stupid 49'ers drafted another running back (Carlos Hyde) in the second round, and no wide receivers through round three.

EDIT: And by the way, the 49'ers leading receiver was 33-year old Anquan Boldin who probably runs a 40-yard dash somewhere in the 5.0 range. So don't tell me that you need superstar wide receivers to win in the NFL.

Overall, you seem like someone who learned football from a video game. Maybe you should pay more attention to what happens on the field.

Beat me too it before I could jump on this morning. This was the exact team I was going to reference, the 2011 9ers. Nasty defense, physical running game
with good ball control. A lot of TE use. I would love had another TE in Jace Amaro been available, of course I"m hoping we draft Abbraderris today. I'm pretty sure I speak for just about everyone in this thread who's watched the kid play that he could be a very steady receiver for years. Aside from my feelings on the Manziel pick, its been a solid draft. Gilbert needs to improve his physical play, I have no doubt spending some time with Haden and Whitner will do that. Our oline has picked up a good addition and I just had the ability to watch a little on Terrance West. Big back with good quicks, vision and lateral agility. Appears to have soft hands as well. I'm not at all mad about that pickup. It's clear what this coaching staff wants to do. Run the ball, play defense, no turnovers.

edit: If you put a Buckeye jersey on him he might be mistaken for Hyde. Again, not at all mad. Especially in the AFC North.

If you're a fan of Tressel ball, we should be able to appreciate this approach.

edit: What time do the picks start today? Can't find when...
