I find it very interesting how we are late in fall camp and quite a few position battles are still raging. The rhetoric last year from Coach was that, for the most part, the starters were settled after spring ball. Considering Coach admitted they blew it on sitting a few freshman I think that has had an impact on leaving some position battles to rage through fall and I think that's healthy.

From this morning....

  • Day 20 of camp. Today may have been the best practice since this staff came to OSU. High energy, speed, "very very good day"
  • Braxton doing better than Meyer thought he would. Hanging around players, knows plan is in place. Will have surgery, but unknown when or where yet.
  • Recaps last 24 hours. Not looking how it affects season...worry about the moment & getting a QB ready. Injuries are part of football.
  • JT has had about 300 competitive throws ("not reps, throws"). Says Kenny Guiton had about 6 before he went in.
  • Best QBs are great distributors. Kenny Guiton was one of the best he'e been around. Get the ball out quick & to your playmakers. JT is very good at that.
  • So far team is passing the test. Recaps the initial injury. 7 yard throw, didn't see what happened. Thought someone hit him & was ready to go "ballistic".
  • Really, really likes the team, especially after today's practice. Would consider playing both JT & Cardale.
  • Great trust in medical staff & things happen. (Tim May was trying to get him to admit he's second guessing things)
  • Hope Braxton returns in 2015. Mentions Drew Brees & Sam Bradford going through similar injury & both came back strong. Expects recovery time of 9-12 months.
  • Thought Braxton would be ready to go in summer, after the surgery in February. Reports were all positive in July.
  • JT is kind of "Guiton-ish". Cool, calm, good leadership skills
  • Recaps injuries at Utah & Florida. Some times injuries bring teams together
  • Staff meets tomorrow morning to game plan for Navy
  • Center & LG still TBD, but things are much better than Spring. Jacoby & Lindsay competing for C. Pat Elflein can also play C. LG is a battle between Billy Price & Joel Hale. Says Chase Farris has had his best camp so far.
  • Doran Grant #1 corner, 2nd still TBD. Mentions Eli, Gareon & Armani
  • Zeke back full time, but still no contact. Mentions again that Rod Smith, Brionte Dunn & Curtis Samuel have had good camps.
  • 100 yards of offense needs to be made up with Braxton out. Excitement from skill players based on that.

Weird how an injury to someone like Braxton can change things. Will be interesting to see how it turns out. My excitement to see the product on the field is just as high. The expectations may be slightly less but you never know how a team will respond. Will certainly be interesting to watch.

Urban likes a hungry, angry team. He has that now so there will be lots of motivation to prove the pundits wrong that we're done. If the leadership is as strong as it appears this will be exciting to watch these kids go after teams.
