2014 College Football Playoff Open Thread

Couple things that are clear to me after all this;

  1. The BayCU Horned Green Fruit Frog Nation is being eaten alive from the inside out by not making the playoffs. I am talking real, actual bleeding ulcer like emotional pain.
  2. #1 makes me giggle my motherfucking ass off
  3. Outside of Trucker Driver U up in Idaho I'm not sure a more insignificant program (that thinks its a somebody) exists.

Granted this isn't the Transitive Property thread, but the logic of Baylor's complaint still eludes me.

They LOST their one and only bowl game to the same team that LOST to BOTH of the NC finalists.

What do they imagine they would have achieved had they been included in the top four?

Kind of amazing that a school has worked its way onto my hate list, along with genuinely corrupt institutions like PedState and FreeShoes, by virtue of nothing other than being colossally obnoxious whiners.

I think this sign says it all:

ESPN's College GameDay was in Stillwater, Okla., for Oklahoma State vs. Baylor, and there were plenty of creative and hilarious signs.

Another funny one:

A lot of the discussion on the last weekend of the CFBPC's deliberations focused on TCU, Baylor, and Ohio State competing for the 4 seed.

But there was 1 team that did not appear to belong, and that was the undefeated defending national champion. I wonder if that opens the door for the committee to leave out an FSU-like team in the future and replace it with a TCU-like team.

No, and you can thank the 02 team for that.

I remain unconvinced that FSU could not have beaten either Baylor or TCU.

lol, cause the CFP games weren't #1, #2, and #3 most watch cable programs this year. Why mess with it? As far as the NFL trying to push in on the CFP champ game's day, i say let them. The networks won't want it on them and espn won't compete with itself and they're more heavily invested in the college game and CFP already. So good luck w/ that playoff game on NFL network Goodell, maybe lifetime or oprah'c channel will want it.

Good point. Still, FSU just seemed to be playing bad football at times against mediocre opponents. Ohio State in 02 found themselves in a lot of tight games because the game plan going in was to rely on defense, run Dave, run it again, pass only when you have to, and be elated to punt or kick a FG. I think there was a recognition with them that they were a very talented, well-coached football team that found a way to win, whereas FSU appeared to be a flawed team, with significant holes, that didn't seem to exucute well, and was somewhat undisciplined.

I think that's a common point of view. We are conditioned by the Poll Era to think that a defending champion, and an undefeated team, should be given the benefit of the doubt, but the CFPC's job is to get the "4 best teams". I just wonder how much discussion there was about leaving FSU out and moving Baylor in. It's probably wise that they left FSU in because many fans wouldn't understand the rationale.

I agree, but even people with high football IQs don't like to acknowledge a difference between playing sloppy and playing conservatively.

FSU drew a really bad matchup in Oregon. I think they would have given Alabama a much better game and justified their seeding. Oregon's offense and tempo is meant to encourage bad execution out of the defense. With sloppy play and defensive breakdowns being FSU's calling card, they were walking into a buzzsaw.

Alabama on the other hand would have played ball control and let FSU hang around where they can attempt one of their patented comebacks.

I had the same thoughts rolling around in my head. Oregon is one of those teams that if they get it rolling in their favor at their tempo, you are doomed. I remember watching them play Sparty, and thinking Sparty had control, and in a matter of a couple of minutes, they were getting blown out. That's why I didn't relax 2 weeks ago until that 42nd point was scored. But, yeah, FSU had no answer to the mo Oregon got going in the 2nd half. Ohio State got blitzed on the first drive, stayed calm, adjusted to the tempo, took advantage of mistakes, and siezed control.

It's an unknowable thing, but I sense that any of these games could have gone the other way given a couple of variables. Mainly, Jameis Winston had always pulled FSU's arse out of the fire. He finally failed to compensate for all of their other sins.

All of which is a good reason not to take a fucking knee even very late in the 4th quarter.

Whiny bitches piss me off.
