2014 Bowl Games Open Thread

Makes sense. It doesn't make sense to not watch ESPN and complain about the content though. How do you know what they are saying if you don't watch?

It's more than just watching their scripted bullshit. Their webpage shows it just as plainly as anything their talking heads can say and have said for over 8 years now.

That tiger isn't going to change its stripes and as you said, ESECSECSECPN has a monetary investment in making the SEC look good. With that comes ignoring less than stellar results.

If Wisconsin beats Auburn after getting ass-raped by the Buckeyes...
I brought up the other day that I would be watching this game closely, you guys said it was meaningless.

Auburn is barely a top 25 team without Duke williams. It messes up their while offense. I think auburn is #25 team as they sit now, #15 or so with Duke.

Where do you guys see Wisconsin? I've only seen them play twice. They got beat by some team with stickers on their helmets by about 60. Seriously, where would you rank them?

They are raking it in too

Why in the hell did the B1G go with fox. I'm pretty stupid (from Alabama) but even I know that you partner with espn in that kind of deal.

I don't see Auburn shutting down Melvin Gordon the way the Bucks did, because dude is going to be furious and they'll have a better plan. Where should they be ranked? Ask me again at around 10PM.

(I almost said ask me tomorrow, but it's finally game day. almost feels surreal)

BTN is mostly owned by FOX and they are making a metric fuckton more than the SEC is with ESECPN.
Numbers I have seen have schools making about 45 million from each deal.

The sec network wasn't projected to produce so much, but it has been far more successful than anticipated.

There's an article (from fox of all places) detailing the stength of the sec and it's network. He even gets his subscriber numbers way wrong, and still comes up with huge numbers. ESPN was the right choice.

Auburn isn't going to shut down anything. They have guys not wanting to get hurt going into the draft, no defense (run or pass). They have no reason to win unless Wisconsin makes it easy.

If Wisconsin tries to keep players from getting hurt and can't pass at all, auburn has a good chance.

I believe Joel Stave's last pass attempt landed around here ...

Just wait until you see the new deal for the BTN with all of the DC/NYC/East Coast markets filled in. BTN/FOX is going to make more

Maybe so, but that's not how it sits now.
I know you guys are unhappy with espn coverage. Are you happy with fox? Do they talk up the B1G?

This is what you don't understand - most Big Ten fans don't want to be talked up. They want to be on the same plane as everyone else. That has decidedly not been the case since 2006 and perhaps earlier.

This very forum has gone into great detail about ESPiN's war against Tressel in 2004. It's not a new thing. Add to that ESPiN's lowball offer to the B1G in the 2005 timeframe that essentially launched the BTN all by itself, and there you go.

It's not about Fox talking up the B1G or whoever, it's about ESPiN not being able to separate its journalistic enterprise from its business motives.
