Game Thread 2014 B1G Championship Game: tOSU vs. Wisconsin, Dec. 6, 8:17 PM ET, FOX

I'm not sure where speed ranks in the makeup of an elite RB. It's high, but I don't think it's the #1 thing. My suggestion is vision - the ability to see where the lane will be, when to be patient or hit it, when and where to cut. Gordon is an elite back and he has great vision. I think EE has the potential to be one, but Gordon is a proven one. He profits from being in a run offense, but the defense knows what is coming too - which makes what he has done really impressive.

I think the key for Wisconsin is Stave. Gordon will get his, and will break a few long ones, but at some point Stave will have to make some throws to continue drives and score. The Silver Bullets need to make him miserable when he attempts it, and OSU will be fine. If he has a good night, we won't. Here's to him getting another infection of the yips.
The only thing I feel Gordon needs to be careful of is getting too muscle bound. The guy has changed physically tremendously since his freshman year and While it's good to have the size to fend off getting knocked around if he gets too much he may not be as fluid as he is now. The one thing I will say is that both RB's are in tremendous systems that are RB friendly particularly Gordon. When hasn't a RB at Wisconsin done well? If I'm a OL or a RB in college I'd have to look at that school because they proven over time that they not only can get you to play at a high level but also into the NFL as well. It'll be interesting to see the make up of our game this Saturday and I for one wouldn't be surprised to see Zeke come out and out perform Gordon (although I do feel Gordon is the more talented of the two).

A lot of talk this week will be about Cardale Jones but for me it's about the Buckeye defense and special teams. Don't let Gordon run wild and avoid the ST gaffes and Ohio State has a great chance to win. If those two things happen Jones doesn't have to try to do too much. If he has to play from behind it's going to be asking a lot of him at this point.

If we mix a little of what was good about the offense last year (dominating run game using a lot of rushing from the QB) with what's been good this year (distribution of the ball without being overly dependent on and unproductive with the deep ball), we will do very well offensively. On the other side, I'm thankful for Chris Ash and the way our DBs have improved this year. There's still obviously room for improvement but this and the absence of Abre-what's-his-nuts, who fcuking owned us, should let the DL and LBs focus on Gordon. He's been held to less than 40 yds by a much less talented defense so, if we can (and it's admittedly a somewhat big IF) limit the bonehead mistakes and penalties, we should be ok.

I think we beat a solid Badger team and then ball-out in three weeks in the playoff. Fcuking hell, no one else has a 250 lb QB who can run and sling the rock. If the rest of the team shows up and helps the kid, he has a chance at immortality. I didn't think anyone would/could ever out-Guiton Guiton but he's got the chance and I choose to believe that he will. O - muthafcuking - H!

Amen. :groove: I-O!

It's a blessing in disguise. Heavy on the run means a shorter game, longer possessions and less likelihood of freak occurrences ("2 out of the 3 are bad").

This allows our defense to rest and more importantly keeps Wisconsin's only player capable of beating us off of the field.

From my recollection, OSU was able to limit Wisconsin's rushing game last year largely by taking defensive resources away from the pass defense and devoting them to run defense, i.e. consistently crowding the LOS with linebackers and safeties. That's why Gordon and White combined ran for only a little over 100 yards, and also why Stave threw for 295 and Abbrederis caught for 205. OSU hasn't done much of that this year, but I think this may be the game to do it. They might not hold Gordon to 75 yards, but if they can hold him to well below his average, I'll take that even if it means more opportunities for Stave.

I'm virtually certain the Wisconsin defense will take that approach against OSU, particularly with an OSU quarterback in his first start.

I have different thought I realized today... we all know wisconsin has a good defense but I feel the numbers are actually skewed very heavily. Who have they played? LSU got theirs, NW went for around 275 in the air both resulted in losses. Then Minnesota rushed for about 200 on them, and the next best offense Nebraska was playing from behind and couldn't stick to their game plan. Their crossover games? Illinois and the two new comers... they avoided the three teams in osu, MSU, and Indiana that would've tested them greatly.

Meanwhile osu played Navy a great running school, cincy who has a good passing game, minnesota, msu, and a good running team in indiana. No shit they're better than our defense statistically.

Also this will be our fourth top 10 defense...FOURTH. as well as two other teams in minnesota and tech in the top 30.

We have been there done that three other times with top 10 defenses. Their been there done that is freaking either northwestern or LSU both losses. Wouldn't be shocked to see wisconsin struggle with us
