I don't see much difference in the Wildcats under Carmody and the Wildcats under Collins.
Carmody's conference win% over 13 years was .318; Collins's is .333. No reason to wax rhapsodic over Collins quite yet.
I don't gauge competency or performance in terms of short win streaks. Like I said, so far his winning percentage approximates Carmody's. If Collins is able to build on this streak and develop a consistently good team (which for most other schools would be described as "mediocre"), then I'll change my opinion. But it's way too early to do that.Yeah, achieving a conference win streak in his SECOND YEAR that Carmody didn't achieve once in THIRTEEN SEASONS really pales in comparison to Collins' inability to win a lot more B1G games than Carmody with the same scrub players Carmody put on the team.
Damn you Penn State would been nice if Iowa would have lost would have given us a chance to get into that top 4. Now watch Penn State beat us when we go there.
By the way Wisconsin is playing we would been better served winning the Michigan game and not having to count on beating this team.
That is an excellent post and I do not agree with hardly anything except maybe for the Coach of the Year. I think everyone expected Maryland to be one of the top three teams in the conference this year so I would almost go with Painter because not many people were expecting Purdue to do very much this year but I doubt if either Painter or Turgeon win this award because it seems like a lot of commentators are in love with the job Tommy has done at Indiana which I do not understand at all. With a week left, I think it is as good a time as any to predict what we will see and what our own opinions are for All-Conference. My selections lean more towards advanced stats and conference record/stats.
Player of the Year - Frank Kaminsky. This should be unanimous.
Coach of the Year - Mark Turgeon. I assume he will win since Maryland was predicted to be a middle-of-the-pack team. Purdue lost to Gardner-Webb and North Florida, which will really hurt Painter's chances.
Freshman of the Year - D'Angelo Russell. Again, this should be unanimous.
Defensive Player of the Year - AJ Hammons. Purdue has the best defense in the league and Hammons leads the league in blocks. I'm not crazy about the fact Hammons only plays 60% of Purdue's minutes, but I don't see any other obvious candidates.
Sixth Man of the Year - I think this is kind of a dumb award. I can't even find accurate stats for games started, so I don't know who the candidates are. If Troy Williams hasn't started many games, he would be my winner. If Williams has started most games, Gabe Olaseni is the other name that comes to mind.
