Former Michigan player: "Nearly half the team was stoned during Appalachian State loss"

In a shocking revelation, this former player told me that over half of Michigan’s defensive starters and several key offensive starters partied deep into the night the night before the 2007 Michigan vs. Appalachian State game, then smoked marijuana hours before kickoff in an effort to “see how bad we can beat ‘em up if we are stoned.” The player said that the Michigan secondary and linebackers were the main participants of this group, but the ring leader was an explosive offensive playmaker, who would later be suspended during his Michigan career for failing a drug test.

“Mike Hart tried to be a leader, but a lot of guys disliked him and resented him behind his back. Chad (Henne) or Jake (Long) really should have stepped up when they saw what was going on, but never did. Its funny that those guys all came back for their senior seasons to win a National Title, but no one ever did anything to make sure that would happen.

I had to check and make sure that article wasn't from The Onion - because generally only The Onion can make me laugh that hard.

On Tuesday afternoon, a campus initiative to raise awareness of how blacks are treated at the University of Michigan quickly went viral and ignited a nationwide conversation about race and diversity. The social media campaign, #BBUM (Being Black at the University of Michigan), encouraged students and others to share their experiences of being a minority at the Ann Arbor institution. The hashtag was trending nationally on Twitter for several hours, and almost 13,000 tweets have been made so far — an impressive outpouring over such a short time period. “We really just wanted to create a platform for our voices to be heard,” Tyler Collier, a senior at the school and president of the Black Student Union, tells Yahoo Shine. http://yhoo.it/1eirEPc
Collier was inspired to start the initiative after recent racially charged incidents. As a black leader on campus, he says he simply wanted to give black students, who represent 4 percent of the student body, a voice that is just as powerful as the majority. Turns out he did that and much more. “Psychologically, it’s very powerful and important for people to speak out,” David Bedrick, a Santa Fe-based therapist, tells Yahoo Shine. “It humanizes their stories.” The conversation is especially important for those who have avoided addressing these issues and it can be as cathartic as "coming out," he says. Ultimately, Bedrick believes, this debate will educate everyone and hopefully bring about change.

As a minority.......this is the dumbest thing ever. Most of the tweets are asinine.

Talking to white people and building friendship with them in class, only to never be invited outside of class? That's just about anyone. If you don't live near their dorm or apartment complex, or they're not trying to have sex with you, they probably won't go out with you.

Not raising your hand in class because you don't want to be THAT black guy. Congrats on putting down your own race and being embarrased to seek knowledge.

You're an angry black man? Sounds like you need anger management. Doesn't sound like this is par for the course because you're black.

You can't find your access card and people ask if you know someone? Well if you followed the rules and had your access card, they wouldn't have to question you.

Largest population of blacks is in the athletic department? Well then, push your fellow black students in high school to meet UMs rigorous academic standards and then you won't need to worry about it.

It pisses me off that people use race for everything. Yes, I've experienced racism. Yes I hear those comments that while they sonud innocent, aren't. Remember, people consistently talk about deporting "my kind" nowadays. But it isn't the excuse for everything. When I didn't make TBDBITL, I went to talk to Dr. Woods about it. I was told (by other band members) why I didn't get in (me vs. squad leader's sister - back when they didn't have the checks and balances) and I brought it up to him. His first response, "Do you think it may have been because you're Hispanic?" The thought of race hadn't even entered my mind when this occurred. I understand you have to be cautious nowadays, but people play the race card way too much.

So.... the lowest population of whites is in the athletic department? That racist university needs to get more whites into that department to even out all of the percentages.
