2013 TSUN Football News

From 1972 to 1974 his teams won 30 of the 33 games they played.....and never went to a Bowl game because Woody's team ended their season each time.

P.S. The Big Ten changed the rule in 1975 to allow scUM to go to a Bowl after they lost to OSU (which they did again in '75) and true to scUM form they went down to the Orange Bowl and bit the pillow for Oklahoma.

Yes, but the best rule change - and sweetest result - came in 1973. Up until then a Big Ten team could not go to the Rose two years in a row.

Wouldn't you know that in 1973 OSU and UM played to a 10-10 tie and a tie for the Conference Title. Since OSU had gone the year before it would seem a no brainer to continue the old tradition and send Michigan.

They did not (a decision that killed Bo 33 years later).

OSU became the first Big Ten team to ever go to two consecutive Rose Bowl's. They went on to make it 4 straight - a mark never equaled (although Wisconsin has a chance to do it this season).

Prime time? Under the lights? National Spotlight?
"No thanks" says Dave Brandon when asked about playing Michigan State at night.

Main reason: Too much tailgating.

?We don?t think think it?s a good idea,? Brandon said. ?From our perspective, the nature of that rivalry and the intensity of it, when you put that on in prime time and you give everybody all day long to gear up for it. ?Hosting that at Michigan Stadium, that?s probably taking that a step further than it needs to go.?

This is flat out ridiculous.

So...why is this any different from the prime time game against Notre Dame this year? Is there really going to be less tailgating than if it was Michigan State? I thought tailgating was always a constant, the only thing that affects it is kickoff time :wink2:

Far be it from me to say anything evenly remotely kind about ND, but their followers - delusional as they are - and students behave much better than any Big 10 fanbase - at least at home games.

Michigan State fans take a terrific amount of abuse from their instate siblings on everything from location, to academics, to W/L ratio... and if you think Detroit looks bad, take a gander at East Lansing.

Haven't been to any away games yet, but Purdue and MSU fans have always been pretty well behaved when they've been in South Bend. They may not invite you over to their tailgate like Nebraska, but pretty respectable. Michigan will walk around like they own the place though, even if they just lost to Appy State. Used to see fights in South Bend regularly when Michigan was in town, although they've gotten better after the Rich Rod years.

From Nick Baumgardner, who covers UM from MLive:

Derrick Green checked into camp weighing 240 pounds, per http://MGoBlue.com 's official roster... That ain't playing weight, kids.
Yeah, that wouldn't cut it with Urbs. I remember hearing that Green had some serious attitude/work ethic issues, which I can confirm first hand on behavior that I witnessed down at Miami (OH). E-ZE is looking like the better fit each and every day.

Isn't Green the kid who worked his ass off every day, waking up at 5 in the morning to work out, because his Coach told him he would have to drop 50 lbs to be a running back? I seem to recall an article to that effect.

Think this is the one http://weblogs.dailypress.com/sports/college/accblog/2011/07/top_gun_camper_derrick_green_t.html

" I knew I couldn't be a running back at 268. It just wasn't happening."
That's when the transformation started.

In less than two years, Green has shed almost 50 pounds and trimmed nearly an entire second off his 40-yard dash time. With a breakout junior season this fall, there's a good chance he could be one of the nation's most heavily recruited running backs in the class of 2013.

To this day, he doesn't drink any soft drinks, juices or sports drinks, and eats no fried foods or fast food. He lives mainly on salads and has eliminated all "bad" carbohydrates (no candy, cakes, cookies, custard or pudding-based desserts and no bread or pasta made with refined flour).

So is that extra 22 lbs good weight or bad?
