2013 Preseason and regular polls

Guys, its plain and simple - the Buckeyes have not played at a high enough level to fend off other programs. The "win and everything will take care of itself" approach is long gone with the parity of college football and the BCS. It seems only Buckeye fans care about the win streak this year and I think that is because college football has desensitized itself with streaks because there ha bbeeen other so recently.

OSU ranked margin of victories:

#23 Wisky - 7 points
#16 NW - 10 points

Oregon:

#16 Wash - 21 points
#12 UCLA - 28 points

FSU:

#23 Maryland - 63 points
#3 Clemson - 37 points
#7 Miami - 27 points

You couple this with the fact that the Buckeyes allowed 20 points to Buffalo (D2), 34 to Cal (1-6), and a close one to Iowa - and its hard to make a case for the Buckeyes based off of Illinois, Indiana, and a [Mark May]ty scUM team. The best we as fans can hope for are the top 3 losing and the Buckeyes winning out and winning BIG in every game. Anything less than a 4 TD margin of victory will be considered a let down in the eyes of the pollsters.

Please, tell us how you really feel about teh Semenholes and Organ.

Not really poll related but CBS Sports has this poll question up.

Which matchup would you most like to see in the BCS championship?

Alabama vs. Oregon
34%

Oregon vs. Ohio State
5%

Florida State vs. Alabama
29%

Oregon vs. Florida State
16%

Ohio State vs. Alabama
16%

I assumed Bammer vs Nike would be #1 but surprised to see Nike vs THE Buckeyes only at 5%.

We really need 1 or 2 of the teams in front of us to lose this week. If they all win I have the feeling we'll be in the Rose Bowl.

About this time last year was the week that #1 Kansas State and #2 Oregon both dropped a game in the same night to push the Irish to #1. It can happen. With 4 weeks left theres almost a certainty at least 1 of the 3 between 'Bama, Oregon, and FSU will drop a game, history has shown it's just about inevitable. Theres a decent chance that 2 of the 3 will drop a game, although some of their schedules are easier than others. Florida State may have the easiest path at this point since the only big test they have left is a Florida team that's on a 3 game losing streak. Hopefully 'Bama drops one to either LSU this weekend or Auburn at the end of the year (I think they'll handle Missou if they face them in the conference championship), and Stanford finds a way to contain Oregon again.

Right now yeah. I have a feeling this weekend will be the key to OSU having a shot at the BCS championship. We really need 1 or 2 of the teams in front of us to lose this week. If they all win I have the feeling we'll be in the Rose Bowl.

I can't believe I'm saying this, that just might suck. If Oregon were to win out then we'd be stuck with a two loss PAC team at best correct? If we were held out of the championship game while being undefeated, I'd rather see us put an end to that whole "Buckeyes haven't beat the SEC" bullshit.

I am starting to warm up to the idea of a Rose Bowl, or should there be a loss, the Orange Bowl. Though I would not be stunned and thrilled, I'd be content, knowing the problems are solved the following year by the playoff (when we come of sanctions as well and begin to have more backups and competition for spots).

The game against Indianapolis will be a test of whether the pass defense is improved, tSUN will likely play better than they have this season, and the MSU game will likely be an ugly win.

I agree. Luck is pretty good. When do we play them again?

Holly Rowe believes in the Bucks...
Q: If you had a vote for the four teams to participate in a playoff, if the playoff system was used this season, what four teams would you pick?

A: Today with the records the way they are and there's still games left to be played, I do believe Alabama, I do believe Florida State and I do believe in Ohio State. I had them two weeks ago and their offense can play with anybody in the country. I don't know that their defense is an elite defense yet, but IO believe in Ohio State, I believe they're good. So I would put them in that four. And then the last one, I don't know. I believe in Baylor's system; we covered them last year when they upset Kansas State who was ranked No. 1 at the time. I like their process and their offense and I believe in that system but can they stop a big-time team with a big-time running back? I don't know that yet. I don't know who to put in that fourth spot.

Q: No Oregon? It's not a lock for you?

A: Not yet. Stanford this week - I wish I didn't know they were playing Stanford in (three) days, but they are, and Stanford is a rugged, difficult team who made it difficult for Oregon last year. I had Oregon's bowl game last year so I went back and watched the Stanford game, their only loss of the season, as how do you stop Oregon? Stanford knows how to stop them. They have a way - Oregon does a lot of their handoffs and a lot of their work and a lot of their tricky offense in this little pocket right behind where the quarterback is, in between the offensive line and the quarterback. What Stanford did was they collapsed that space and the offensive line gets pushed back into the space where Oregon likes to operate. And nobody else can do that to Oregon in the Pac 12, but Stanford can. And that disrupts all the timing and all the zone reads and stuff, so Oregon has to show me this week I guess.
