2013 Preseason and regular polls

Wow. Here I was, having a fairly nice Sunday evening with the family... Yeah - I had to do some yelling at the 4-year-old who decided that he wanted a beatdown. But certainly nothing I couldn't handle. And once kids were in bed, I figured I'd check out Buckeye Planet. But it's a good thing I did, because I otherwise wouldn't have known that the sky was falling.

I just don't understand this mentality. To people whining about Ohio State dropping in the polls, are your lives really going to be so bad if Ohio State goes 13-0 and relegated to the Rose Bowl? I mean.. really?

One of the things I enjoy making fun of Penn State fans about is their whinery about 1994. It's now 19 years later, and they're still whining about going 12-0 and not getting their #1 ranking. Is that going to be something they make fun of Buckeye fans about in 19 years?

Well that's a stupid question. By the end of next season all anyone is going to be talking about is how we are only a half of a season away from beating Oklahoma's streak.

In the past 10 years of BCS, there has only been one instance of an undefeated team being locked out of the game b/c 2 undefeated teams were ahead of them at this point in the season (2004 Auburn).
In just 3 years, the NCG participants been selected at this point in the season.
It's not worth wasting time over.

I hate to do this b/c hearing Doris Day makes me nauseous, but apparently some people need a reality check.

My God, I post all those facts and stats in my thread and the only thing you jump on is "D2"? lol. Good one.

D2, D1AA, D1A, FBS, FCS, WAC, MAC...Who cares, it still doesn't help the Buckeyes because pollsters don't really that we beat Buffalo who beat Stoney Brook and eastern Michigan.

Just like the other tool that retorted with "because we have Urban fucking Meyer" earlier in the thread when he was out of anything factual to come back with.
I've already posted facts and links trying to explain how utterly fucking stupid it is to worry about polls with four weeks of football left, not including conf championship games, but keep on being a douche.

Btw, saying our coach is URBAN FUCKING MEYER, who has three large winning streaks and two motherfucking titles while the dude named Jimbo and whogivesashit haven't won a conf titles between them is a perfectly acceptable answer to your bullshit assumption that I'm a homer because i believe the team coached by a proven winner has a better chance at going undefeated than the two coaches that ain't won a god damned Bon Jovi Novelty mirror from a fucking county fair combined.

I take it you noticed I conveniently left some details off of 2006 and 2007.

Its not the polls that will cause the Buckeyes to go undefeated - its the same weak sauce teams that got the Buckeyes into this mess that will cause them to go undefeated. Im not saying every team will stay unbeaten, just that I feel there is a better chance for that to happen with.

Your opinion is that 2 of the top 3 go down. My opinion is that there is a better chance they stay unbeaten. We all can throw around history of the BCS and try to make something stick - hell we could spin it that the Bucks have a terrible chance against an SEC team in a bowl, let alone against one in an NC. I try not to follow BCS history; I stick to what has happened so far this year.

Im not going to fight a fellow Buckeye on a message board and turn this great place into a BWI or ESPN thread - BP is too good for that. So Im going to drop it and agree that we will see what happens when it does (or may not) happen. Were on the same team. Cheers. :chest:

I'm not talking about BCS history as much as I'm talking about the history of College football. Toughest games are in November. Most teams strengths and weaknesses are on tape for opponents to study. Rivalry ganes. Playing a team you've beat once. History says it's damn hard to go undefeated. tOSU's schedule is roughly the same as FSU's and Bama's. Wisky is way underrated and MSU should be in the top 12.

No. I just can't agree with this statement. Wake Forest, Syracuse, and Idaho are their next three.

1. Chances are extremely high that there will, at most, be 2 undefeated teams (worth mentioning) at the end of the season.
2. Even if that isn't the case, it matters not what anyone has to say about it here
3. Using Win/Loss records vs other schools is highly dependent on which time period (specifically which coach) we're talking about; and in any case not a reliant method of predicting the future.
According to history, we only had a 50/50 chance to beat Penn State, and less than a 50/50 chance at beating ttun every year.
But those obviously don't hold up to recent history.
You're attempting to compare a reasonable application of statistics (very generalized statements over a specific time period) to an unreasonable application of statistics (very specific statements with a very large time period); and then making an unreasonable conclusion.
