2013-2014 College Basketball (official thread)

Smart has to be the bigger person in that situation, but that fan does seem to have a negative reputation, and if he really said something nasty like the n-word I certainly won't hold it against Smart. I would hope the fans around him would be honest, but that likely won't happen. Surely there was some sort of camera around the area that caught the audio of what happened.

Seth Davis just put out each tweet (which I have lost) and the guy said that he did not say anything racial. I guess there is a press conference or a statement will be made by Smart at 6 PM. I think the statement will be made by Smart. Not sure it might be a representative of the athletic department.

yeah looks like he was saying to his teammates multiple times "he called me a ----" at least thats what it looked like. If so I don't think he should be suspended, but will anyone who sat close by confirm that? Not so sure they will turn on the so called super fan.

Pertains to this story:

"Go back to Africa" Twitter rumor becomes Marcus Smart story canon - Deadspin

In the overnight hours after Marcus Smart shoved a fan in Lubbock at the end of Saturday's Oklahoma State-Texas Tech game, speculation ran wild about what might have provoked the Cowboys superstar guard to react in such a way. By morning, the narrative had been forged: Red Raiders superfan Jeff Orr told Smart to "go back to Africa."

That's thanks to BlackSportsOnline, LostLettermen, and ESPN SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott, all of whom have pushed the story. It starts with WDAF in Kansas City, which tweeted out the following at 1:30 a.m. EST Sunday morning.

No matter what was said, this will become very interesting.

Typical Texas tech fan right there. Living in Dallas for 18 years I have learned they are some of the most obnoxious fans out there, so it does not surprise me that he said something like that. Still does not excuse any player for doing what he did.

You don't think he should be suspended. You're kidding right?

I don't, and I'm not. It was only a shove. If he shoved somebody on the court in a similar manner he wouldn't be suspended.

I don't think this is different because it was a "fan". He forfeited that distinction when he inserted himself into the action by getting personal with a player who came into the stands as the result of a legitimate basketball play.

nope, if i was Smart and that guy did actually call me a ---- he would be needing to go to the dentist to fix some missing teeth.
All he did was shove him after being called a ---- so I give him props on that. Now from the above report of him saying "go back to africa" yea I can see a 1-2 game suspension, but if he called him a ---- there shouldn't be a suspension.

Smart immediately played the race card too.....should be interesting.
If in fact the fan was shouting racial slurs at the kid, it wasn't Smart who "played the race card." Nonetheless he needs to get better control of his emotions. His play has been mediocre lately; not sure whether that's the cause or an effect of his emotional turmoil.

That is a matter of semantics and I see the game is afoot so I won't comment further.

Words don't justify physical violence. Ever.
