2013-2014 College Basketball (official thread)

So the Duke/Syracuse game was one of the greatest games ever played according to Jim Boeheim and it was bigger than the Super Bowl according to Duke Vitale. I mean it was a very good basketball game but I can think of a lot of other games that were just as good if not better.

People live in the now and forget everything else. It was a good game and I have seen many good games like that one this year.

Oh he did? Then it's even more interesting. I just saw a brief clip on FOX Sports Live and didn't hear what they were saying (about it) or read anything about the situation.

That was what was relayed by the OKie State radio crew apparently.

And also this Texas Tech fan apparently has a history of being a moron on the sidelines.

While I don't believe Smart should have shoved the fan, I also believe the verbal abuse from fans is uncalled for.

Well, I put this pretty much all on Smart. There were conflicting reports of what the fan said, it may not have been anything vulgar just some sort of irritating remark. But regardless, Smart was totally out of line in pushing the fan. What happens if the fan comes back at him and a fight starts in the stands? The fan showed more restraint than Smart.

Fans want to be close so they can intimidate and get under the skin of the opposing team. You also have to keep in mind that Smart has had other games recently where he has let his emotions get the better of him and took him off his game.

If the fan dropped the n-word on him then I think Smart would be entirely justified in his reaction. I think the idea that fans have carte blanche to perpetrate that sort of abuse while we place the athletes under a microscope and expect them not have any sort of reaction is bullshit. Besides, he only shoved the guy. How sensitive have we become when a shove becomes a reprehensible act? A shove like that isn't violence. A shove like that is the quickest way of asking, "Are you sure you wanna go there, asshole?"
