Anyone else think the scheduling of "second" ranked teams hurts us later in the season/tourny?
Seems to me that if we want to run with the big dogs we need to do it all the time, rather than after the B10 starts... just sayin

Ohio State is the only team in the nation to make it to the Sweet 16 every one of the past four years. So no, I don't think it hurts us.

Nope, basketball is a different animal than football... a 30+ game regular season schedule is a grind. By the time they play 18 games against Big Ten competition, they should be tournament ready. Scheduling of non-power schools is a crap shoot... sometimes they are terrible, sometimes they are NCAA tournament teams.

Looking at the last 5 or 6 years of schedules, 3-4 of their games are against power conference teams... usually about 25% of the non-conference schedule and are usually split between home and away/neutral. As a fan I'd like to see that at 4-5 per year but kind of like football scheduling there is some finesse involved and scheduling down years do happen... like this year.

Honestly, I don't think it makes much of a difference whether they play 3 or 10 power conference teams in nonconference play. The B1G is always a challenge and pushes the team to get better. You're not really going to be able to get a "preview" of the Elite 8 in the nonconference schedule because you don't know who's going to be there and those teams might not want another extra tough nonconference game. They can get a #2 seed without much in the way of quality wins in nonconference play. Why work harder for what you're going to get anyway?

Yeah, I'm not at all confident that Minny will make the tourney this year, though they are one of the most likely to make it outside of the top-5. Illinois to me looks like the #6 team in the B1G this year - though Minny should be close to that. It is within reason for IU to finish 8th in the B1G this season.

Tommy must need another scholarship
IU Athletics announced today that freshman forward Luke Fischer is leaving Indiana University.

Fischer averaged 10 minutes, 2.8 points and two rebounds per game. He suffered from a shoulder injury for much of the nonconference season, but had been improving his play as of late. He played 19 minutes against Kennesaw State, shooting 4-for-5 from the floor for 10 points and blocking three shots.
