2013-2014 B1G Men's Basketball

Indiana, gotta give them low marks for their court storm after the UW game. So slow developing, it seemed contrived. And plus, you stormed the court after beating a Bo Ryan Wisconsin team? Seriously? It's not like they were 30 and 0 or something.

Wisconsin played poorly with little to no intensity + Indiana played well, especially Ferrell + home game = pretty simple formula for a loss.

I know excuse making is all the rage when one's team loses, but Wisconsin shooting over 53% from the field pretty much disproves your "Wisconsin played poorly" conclusion. Not to mention Ferrell only shot 10-24 from the field (including an atrocious 1-8 from downtown), which doesn't exactly support the notion that he played especially well, as you suggest.

Fact of the matter is that UW has, under Bo Ryan, been a team that, as much as any other in the nation, performs way better at home vs. on the road. It seems no one was paying much attention to the fact that in jumping out to a 16-0 start, only three of UW's games were true road games (and, even then, the toughest opponent being UW Green Bay, who UW beat by the small margin of three points (69-66)). Taking all that into account, it's not all that surprising that when UW faced a solid (if unspectacular) Indiana team on the road, they lost.

Ferrell got pretty much any shot he wanted at the end of the game, and made them. He was way too quick off the dribble, and he was the difference. UW also gave up way too many points in the paint (52/75). They had Indiana down 10 in the second half and didn't put them away. You can't do that on the road in the Big 10 and expect to win. This may be a better offensive squad than Ryan usually has, but it's certainly not gonna shut anybody down defensively.

As for the bolded, like you noted, that's not really different from anyone else. But one of these years they need to make a run in the tournament to match the regular season success they typically have. I will admit that.

You misunderstood what I wrote--when someone says "as much as any other in the nation," that means the team they're talking about is at the top of the heap. In this case, the disparity of UW at home vs. UW on the road, under Bo Ryan, is as big or bigger than that delta for any other team.

It looks like UM, IU, Minny, Illinois and Purdue are the middle tier in the B1G this year but it's hard to say which one of them will finish highest in the end. Illinois lately seems to be fading towards the back of that group and perhaps giving a chance for a Nebraska to catch them at this rate.

Michigan is 4-0 right now in the B1G. I fully expect them to be 4-3 after the next 3 games. @Wiscy, vs Iowa, @Sparty is going to be a hilacious 3 game stretch. If they can steal one, I'll be happy.

Michigan sitting at 4-0 right now is about the most misleading stat in college basketball. They've absolutely fattened up their record with the dregs of the conference (three of those four wins are against the three worst teams in the conference--teams that have gone a combined 1-13 in conference play). Even then, they could've lost two of those games (@Minny and @Nebraska) and last night's struggle with an atrocious PSU team in Ann Arbor may have been the least impressive game of all.

yeah, that's why I'm not expecting much out of this stretch. And it gets worse next month when they play the same 3 in a row, AND osu in there as well.

I'll be at that game, it's gonna be a slaughter. Thanks for the Christmas present, dear wifey
