On a related note, given that Graham Spanier hasn't been charged with any crime, I assume you feel that whether he kept his job or not was nobody's business, and that public comment on his status would be inappropriate.
You assume incorrectly, not that that comes as any surprise.

Toussaint pled guilty to a reduced charge today. Sentencing isn't for another month. OWVI as opposed to OWI. I can only guess that Hoke has been waiting for the actual charge to be levied before announcing some sort of game suspension.

I'll save you the suspense. He'll Play.

If he doesn't then good for hoke.

He should be suspended. Unfortunately, it's out of my hands so there isn't much I can do. But he should sit, at least one game.

Kinda glad he is playing. I'm looking forward to watching him lose control of the team when they realize he'll just roll over for them. Next thing you know, they'll be clam baking in the locker room before a game against a directional...

What I Know: Game Week

Some stuff from conversations over the weekend and last night:

1) The biggest OL worries are at C and LG.
2) Worries at C are about slow play because of thinking too much.
3) Worries at LG are simply size/strength vs. Alabama front seven. Must step perfectly and finish.
4) Denard has four main reads pre-snap: run the play (run/pass), flip the direction (run), call quick routes (pass), and QB draw (run).
5) Regarding #4, it sounds simple and sounds like a video game, however, it's more reads than he's made before.
6) Regarding #4, the read option component becomes the speed option when direction is flipped.
7) WRs have been beat up in practice... simulating tight, tough man coverage.
8) They believe they have some matchup advantages -- I won't post here, sorry.
9) Mario Ojemudia will play.
10) Two guys that need to have perfect games -- Kovacs and Demens.
11) Regarding #10, this is because of the defensive scheme and reads they need to make.
12) Regarding #10, if they don't, it could get ugly.
13) Jerald Robinson has quietly had a nice fall camp.
14) Like it or not, I don't believe Toussaint would play if Michigan opened with EMU.
15) Regarding #14, there is confidence that if Michigan can beat Alabama, they can play for the title.
16) If Toussaint plays, Clark will too. Packaged deal. There is some logic here, but I'm not going to stir that pot.
17) You might see an occasional hurry up.
18) Jeremy Gallon was the unsung MVP of the fall. He did everything right. He will make plays.
19) I think we'll see Gardner a lot, but he won't start.
20) They expect Alabama to run a spy on Denard all game.
21) Regarding #20, they believe this will come for MLB, OLB, DE, and SS.
22) It's been said that Denard is more confident than he's ever been.
23) DR loved Rod and Magee, but he's really embraced Hoke and Borges.
24) Because the offense does not 100% rely on him, we'll see Denard make throws and reads he never has before.
25) From everything I'm hearing, I believe the closest "fit" for Denard is Charlie Ward. A scrambler that keeps the defense honest by completing easy passes.
Cys is a moderator on GBW. His posts are obviously a bit homeristic, but it is interesting to see him admit that Hoke is valuing wins above integrity. Obviously many coaches are guilty of the same, but Tom Beaver has most convinced they are a beacon of integrity in a corrupt game. any semblance of a high horse has been removed.

It would be pretty funny if they play Toussaint and still get stomped. Losing integrity for the sake of a hopeless cause. Nice.

Also

Good luck with that.

At least they are already lining up their excuses, but blaming two guys for it "getting ugly" seems a bit over the top. It will get ugly because your whole team is overrated, not because your walk on starting safety sucks.

He ran a red light when he was drunk. Those are facts. I can't think of much that is more dangerous. Great opportunity for a teaching moment. and Hoke has to wait for the plea before he decides if he needs to punish the young man?

Drew Sharp: Time to stop 'Hoke-y Pokey' with Michigan's Fitz Toussaint

Hoke sounded Monday like a coach pretty sure whether he would play suspended 1,000-yard rusher Fitz Toussaint against Alabama on Saturday night in Arlington, Texas.
"Oh, I probably have an idea," he coyly demurred to reporters during the season's first weekly news conference.
He listed Toussaint No. 1 on Michigan's depth chart. Doesn't that mean Toussaint once again is the starting tailback, although still technically on suspension, but allowed to practice, for his drunken-driving arrest July 21?
"No decision has been made," Hoke added.

Hoke is using this unfortunate situation for a tactical advantage. Alabama won't know what running back to expect: Toussaint or some [Mark May]ty backup?

Seriously though, he shouldn't play. I remember when Tressel benched his starting quarterback for the last 2 games of the year, including the Michigan game, and the beginning of the bowl game. For a first-offense DUI. Now granted that quarterback was Steve Bellisari.

That decision by Tressel actually catapulted Ohio State to the national title the next year. If Krenzel hadn't gotten that much needed experience, who knows if he'd have been ready to lead in 2002.

Making the right (and difficult) decision now does have a way of benefitting your team in the long run. Making the wrong decision (See Tressel and the Tat 5) will hurt your team in the long run.

Will Hoke make the right decision?

It doesn't matter which Hoke chooses. He's wrong to even make it SEEM like he values winning over integrity. If he truly valued winning over integrity, he would have announced back when all this happened (I don't even know when that is) that he's suspended X games. And that's the NEXT X games - not whichever X games I think we can win without him.

As for 2 players need to be perfect for Michigan to win - I think more than those 2 players need to play perfect just for Michigan to cover the spread.
