2012 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Ain't nobody on the west coast going to compete with USC for recruits until UCLA gets healthy again. Stanford and Cal just don't have their heart in it. Wazoo is in Pullman and Oregon State is in Corvallis. If you've been to those two places you know what I mean. Oregon will last as long as Phil Knight's money and Washington has Seattle, which does a brisk business with the Birkenstock and down filled parka set, but it's a hard sell to kids from early-November to late May. Utah has to compete with the Pac 12 and BYU. Colorado is a mystery. That leaves Arizona and Arizona State, the graveyards of coaches.

USC's talent level during two years of "no bowl" football remained no worse than second best in the conference and their recruiting classes remain among the best which seems to say to me that a great many highly rated prospects could care less about bowl games and small recruiting classes, they want to go to SC.
I think you forget to mention the sleeping giant SDSU. We'll give those Trojans a run for their money.

Rivals' Mike Farrell Twitter:

"Darius Hamilton got a call from Urban Meyer 20 minutes ago and will be talking to him today. #OhioState could be in picture now."

"Hate to break it to some folks but Urban Meyer is to recruiting what Tom Brady is to quarterbacking (is that a word?). Rock star."

Too many PMs to answer so here is a general answer for everyone...

Don't expect all of these 5-star prospects to end up in Columbus. There is room for 6-10 maybe. If there is publicly unknown attrition already guaranteed, that number may go up a few...but for the most part, this is about Urban Meyer re-establishing presence. He is letting everyone in the nation know that when he calls, kids answer and are interested.

Right now, the current commitments will be honored. The current roster is safe unless they choose to leave or mess up.

The flurry of calls is a message to other schools...tOSU is no longer a passive recruiting school.

'12 is going to be good...not great. '13 will be amazing. Future classes will be amazing. Think USC about 8 years ago...

While I agree with you grad, I do think a couple of these guys will be in this class. I could see 2 of the DEs (Spence, Hamilton, Fowler, and Pittman), 1 Lber, 1 WR (Joel Caleb, Cyrus Jones, Stefon Diggs), 2 OTs (Diamond, somebody else) maybe a couple others. We won't be getting all of these guys, no way. But I do think we snag a few.

Day took a visit today, Spence will be taking a visit, Pittman is rumored to be leaning toward OSU, and I'm sure other developments will take place in the next couple months.

All of the sudden, I'm excited about this class.

Absolutely love the sound of all of that, the kids who stuck with tOSU through thick and thin are Buckeyes, and the net will be cast much wider in the future, with whales as the subject of the fishing expedition

I think you mean Joel Caleb. Caleb Day is a 2013 prospect

+1. I never thought of tosu as a passive recruiting school till you said so, and I must say that is about as spot on as I can think. I don't think they'll be as much attrition as people think though, but perhaps a few of the kids will feel like they don't fit his style of play?

I bet we get Spence, Pittman, Caleb, Jones, Diamond, and Dodson. Scary thing is if we have a 5 star guy like the DT out of Washngton DC you can't so NO to him so what do you do?

I posit the attrition will be significant but will not occur before signing day ('12).

When UFM took over at BG the attrition was massive.

There are soe players that will be in for a shock.

My sense is that any sense of entitlement will be blown up.

Winter conditioning will be brutal.

If the SEC has taught us two things:
1. You can't have enough dominant D linemen
2. Oversigning is a best practice (see LSU, Bama, Arky rankings)

Just a comment relative to all the DE interest tUM is generating.

If Williams returns it will make 14 returning scholarship DL - plus Washington.

Gonna be some sorting out to do.
