2012 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

The excitement on the recruiting board in the last two days has been phenomenal. Can anyone remember the last time we have had anything like this to feast on? This has to be child's play for Meyer, he can leave CBus @ 7:00 AM and see any recruit in the state by 10:00AM, home for dinner, sleeps in his own bed, he'll like it.

I've been thinking the same thing. It feels like attack mode.

No need to bring Penn State into this. But seriously, I check the recruiting forum and Rumor Mill like it's signing day now. It will be exciting once the dust settles to firm up a list of prospects that are seriously interested...as exciting as it is now, it's hard to tell what is serious interest and what is lip service.

I would love to see Coach Meyer call back UM commit, line backer James Ross.
IIRC Ross was a Buckeye lean before the turmoil. Really, I'd be happy if he just took an official visit.

I don't. I want a more talented player. Jaylon Smith made him look silly in the combines. If he goes after someone let it be a player thats ranking is justified. Kimbrough is also better than Ross by more than a little.

This. I thought Ross was a solid player, definitely not spectacular. I don't think it'd be worth the effort trying to flip him.

OK guys, riddle me this. Meyer comes aboard, and puts together his staff, leaving out all of the current OSU coaches but two or three (including Peterson). Now, what is the incentive for them to hang around and help Urban create his dynasty of 2012 recruits? A couple extra paychecks while they call around for jobs?

On the other hand, it sounds (to me at least), that Meyer's staff will be from far flung assistants that are not georgraphically looking at the recruits that OSU has been recruiting. "Corporate History" is lost, and methinks that many of the names on the recruiting board are mysteries to him. Maybe Luke can bring him up to speed, but there's gotta be some lost info there. So maybe he's not 'on' the guys that we OSU fanatics think are needed right away.....Don't know how much he was involved in recruiting during his hiatus of ESPiNning, so he could probably be starting from the Scout recruiting lists....dunno....

So, it again seems (to me at least) that he's got to start up in first gear, rather than go straight to third/fourth, when all the other teams with stable coaching staffs are trying to put the finishing touches on their recruiting classes, while fighting for the uncommitted kids that they think they can legitimately pick up. I'll be watching to see how he 'finishes up'.

:gobucks3::gobucks4::banger: Heck, if he was as smart as he's supposed to be, he'd logon to Buckeye Planet and read all of our blogs, and he'd have his problems solved

Between Fickell, Johnson, Fickell and (maybe) Vrabel, that's more than enough assistants to keep up with the remaining targets they have. Meyer also had preliminary contact with at least some recruits while he was still at UF, so that would help him as well. Finally, he has Pantoni as his recruiting guy, and judging by the comments of several recruits, he was very involved with keeping in touch with recruits while at UF.

My bet is that there will be changes to the names on the list of signees on NLOID versus present commits.

But, that all, or damn near all of the change will be greeted positively here and elsewhere - in the end.

Is Luke's wife also recruiting for us?

I would think that the football coaches would keep some kind of detailed database/log for each recruit that contained all the "corporate history", i.e. recruit, address, phone numbers, family members, people contacted, who made the contact, when/how contact was made, what as said, etc.

I know I would need something like this to keep straight (i.e. remember) what was discussed and not get one recruit confused with another. In addition, my guess is that the school's "compliance departmant" would require it too.
