2012 NBA Finals: Thunder vs Heat (OK to bet)

People continue to ignore the obvious difference between Lebron and Durant that makes the latter so special and dangerous offensively. KD can run off of picks and spot up anywhere on the court. If he gets an open look anywhere, he's knocking it down. Lebron can't do that. That is a huge deficiency if you're trying to play a total team game.

It's the exact reason why the Cavs tried to surround Lebron with spot-up shooters that don't need the ball in their hands. They are the only guys he can fluidly play with on offense. In the fast break, with alley oops, sure, he can play off the ball. In the halfcourt set, he needs the ball and THAT is Lebron's major, major flaw; as well as being Durant's major, major strength.

That said, Lebron can physically beat up Durant. For Miami to even this series up, they'll need to match those two up.

Why are all of these nba mooks trying their hardest to look like Urkel at these press conferences? Am I missing something?
Stay current with the times, NF.

Yep. It's all about LeIso with the Queen.

He has to pound and pound and pound the ball (or stand on the wing for 10 seconds) before making a move that dictates the entire possession. There is literally no side-to-side movement which makes the defense the most vulnerable.

LeBron turns everyone on the court into a role player. That's all you can be when he's out there and so the time comes for someone else to make a play and it's just not happening.

If Lebun has to chase KD around defensively for 45 minutes, he'll be useless
to Miami offensively, even more so in the fourth period where he sucks anyway. They're in a no win situation. No one will be able to pick up the slack for his offense. OKC will have guys to help with KD if he's slowed by Lebun.

Eh, at least the low-riding pants and useless necklaces have been replaced by a more nerdy, hipster look for the time being.

Screw that. They are just making us true nerds look like we are trying to be hip. :pissed:

I agree, but I think they'll wait to stick Lebron on him in the 4th. As evidenced by yesterday's fourth quarter it is more valuable to the Heat that Lebron shut down Durant than that Lebron score points in crunch time.

Exactly. All of the analysts keep saying he needs to be surrounded by better players. No, he doesn't. He needs to be surrounded by athletic defensive players who can shoot the 3 and big men who can rebound. Then he can be the focal point of the offense, which is where he is most effective. Cleveland tried to do that and he wasn't satisfied.

Lebron will have to win the title doing it all on both ends of the floor. Absent that, the Heat cannot win this year or any year in the future.

lebron's already complaining about playing heavy minutes and needing more of a break. if he has to chase durant around for any period of time, it's going to pretty much destroy his offensive game. outside of lebron facilitating everything on offense, the heat struggles to score. they simply need to hope that somebody can keep durant in check just enough to hope that lebron goes nba jam mode and somebody else has an uncharacteristically good shooting night for the heat to win.

all that being said, this year is still the heat's best chance for a title, unless they can coerce steve nash and ray allen to sign for the vet minimum to go ring chasing.

I'd say last year was their best chance. The Mavs < than OKC. Plus, there's the added pressure this year after last year's failure. But, I agree that this year is a sort of must win for them. Diane is starting to show signs of slowing down. LeBald is going into his 10th year as a pretty physical player who has been awfully lucky injury-wise to this point...phantom "elbow injury" aside. Gay-giraffe is, well, a gay giraffe. If they don't do it this year (and I don't think they will), I don't think it's happening.

As for Allen and Nash...I'm not convinced that helps them enough. Both are old as dirt. Nash is still playing at a pretty high level, but when one gets into his late-30s, they can fall off a cliff at any moment. Allen is kind of a taller Damon Jones these days. Makes me think of when Payton and Malone went to LA...
