If Hoke is correct when he says: "These guys are going to be guys that have an impact on this program," [Hoke] said. "Guys that are made of character, and guys who come from families that understand what Michigan means and representing Michigan."

then he's done all he really could do in his first recruiting at Mich. There are many people on this board who commented that a big part of RR's problem was that he was taking guys with questionable character - in addition to those same guys being relatively underskilled for Big Ten play. These new recruits may have the second problem, but if Hoke's correct, at least they are heading in a direction where playing for Michigan might once again mean something special. Let's face it, that is one of Tressel's biggest attributes - or at least we like to think so: getting character guys who think being at Ohio State is special.

Frankly, its my opinion that a 3* guy who is of the right character is the 3* guy who is most likely to end up having a 5* career. (EDIT: I'm not suggesting that any or all of these Michigan recruits pan out to 5* careers. Likewise, it would be, I think, folly to grab 20 3* recruits expecting 5* results).

True enough it remains to be seen if Hoke's getting the right characters for Michigan (no coach would say openly "we've got a bunch of mercenaries here" or the like), but given the circumstances he was set in because of Brandon's idiocy, I'm inclined to give Hoke a pass for now.

That said, FUCK BRADY HOKE! :wink2:

I have no idea how these kids will turn out, but being most of them our defense guys, it's safe to say they are going to impact the program.

I understand what heisman is saying, and he's correct. The reason is simple Hoke lacks street cred(for lack of a better word). Harbaugh or Miles could have pulled higher ranking recruits away from programs. Until Hoke gets some street cred he will get 3-4* players. Tressel got his cred with a NC early. This is why our DC was our most important addition. He has street cred.

Hey I get me some street crud, you know, picked me up some dead badger, collected me some rotten gopher, and tried for some stinking lion.
Ran out of time.
Germ you are my boy, you got to help me find some of that there street crud, if that is what it takes for me getting the elites next year.

Stay tuned, the Hokester has some skid marks in his shorts and he's cruising the back alleys looking for more of that there street crud.
Just cause I am a country boy doesn't mean I cain't get me no street crud.
You fellars are in for the ride of your life!

Someone just said they saw a big fire down by the river. Could have been a trailer. Thought you should know.

I certainly can't fault your logic or sentiment here.

My thought is, with enough mediocre seasons, tsun runs the risk of not be especially relevant. My wish is that they fall into a perpetual pit of mediocrity where 8 wins is a pretty good season.

They have the perfect role models...

If you are going to be posting on another teams site. At least write coherent thought down that makes sense.

Some(at MI) are getting all excited about what Hokes says, we should wait to see what he puts on the field first. With three weeks to recruit he did a nice job of salvaging this class, lets see what he can do next year. We should have around 20 scholies open next year.

I am looking for defense to be better. Better in tackling, swarming to the ball, and better pursuit and angles. If they cannot do the above better next year, DB and the entire staff should be fired, because they would have to try really hard to be worse then lat year.

Two more defensive assistants have been named.

Mallory is the son of Bill, the former Indiana HC.

CBS

Hoke completes staff with Mallory (DBs), Montgomery (DL)

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- New Michigan coach Brady Hoke hired Curt Mallory to coach the secondary and Jerry Montgomery to coach the defensive line.
The moves complete Hoke's first staff with the Wolverines.

Mallory and Montgomery will be assistants under defensive coordinator Greg Mattison, who had the same job with the Baltimore Ravens.

Mallory played linebacker for Bo Schembechler and Gary Moeller at Michigan.
He worked for his father, Bill, at Indiana, and was defensive coordinator at Akron last season after having the same position at Illinois the previous three years.

Montgomery played defensive line at Iowa and coached Wyoming's defensive line the last two years.

Cont'd ...

I didn't know where to put this, but espn.com is doing a poll on the best rivalries because of the UNC v Duke game tonight. Right now Red Sox/Yankees is winning and tOSU/TSUN are tied for second. This is a no brainer.

You could have posted it on the ESPN boards, they're much easier to understand.

Interesting to see that pretty much no one outside SEC country cares about Alabama-Auburn, despite the success of both teams lately. Even in the southeast, only 5/8 SEC states voted for that rivalry over OSU/Mich.
