2011 SEC Football Discussion

They could if they were offering a chance to play in the B1G AND a great education.

Korchiki - I'll challenge that logic because they don't win recruiting battles for basketball and they play in the ACC?

This is not to pump up the ACC as America's #1 basketball conference, but should the cross logic apply?

won't work.
Bama has to play BOTH aubie and tenn every year.
Aubie has to play BOTH uga and bama every year.

only way to make that happen is if Bama and Aubie are in the same division.

meaning Bama and Aubie would move East, and the West would get Vandy.
probably also see the end of permanent cross division rivals.

so we would lose Bama, Auburn, and Florida off our schedule so we could have Vandy and [censored]ing Missouri.

no thanks.

add a team to the east.
the Bama schools will cry enough to keep permanent cross division rivals.

we keep rivalries with Bama, Auburn, and Florida while addin Texas A&M.

Forget East & West Divisions, just do:

Leaders:

Florida
LSU
Alabama
Auburn
Tennessee
Georgia
South Carolina

[strike]Legends[/strike] Losers:

Mississippi
Miss State
Vanderbilt
Texas A & M
Arkansas
WVU
Kentucky

And I will counter that logic with the fact that since they have both been in the ACC, UVA holds a 8-7 record vs. Va Tech.

My point is simply that UVA in the B1G automatically becomes a more attractive destination than UVA in the ACC for a football recruit. Basketball maybe not.

The only way that the bolded part does not apply to West Virginia even more than to VPI is if you are assuming that the Big East is on the verge of implosion. The ACC might also be on the verge of implosion, in which case the left-overs of both will form the new Easy Train to the BCS.

WVU is not an automatic favorite to win the Big East every year.
and surely not a yearly contender for a national title.

Va Tech is that in the ACC.
with Miami down, the Hokies have to only beat FSU.

swapped two teams to make it even better.
give us Ole Miss as our permanent cross division rival.

So you're saying that the 'Eers are probably thinking that they don't make it to the BCS that often anyway so they might as well make that NEVER and get plunger raped on a weekly basis so they can cash a few checks?

Sounds like West Virginia logic to me. Well done.

Arkansas would be in the SECCG every single year.

I like it.

Since 1990 Arkansas has had 8 losing seasons...including two 3-win seasons and four 4-win seasons. I don't think a MAC championship game appearance would be a guarantee.

If the Razorbacks were in a division with:

Mississippi
Miss State
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
WVU
Kentucky

I'm pretty confident we'd be OK while Bobby Petrino is around.

Just noticed that Woof has something to fear: powerhouse Coastal Carolina is on the Gawja schedule next week. It's a severe test because their coach is an offensive and defensive genius.

Just listen to this astute recount as Coach Bennett shares his insights into the type of college players a team needs to win:

After the first two games, the Arkansas Razorbacks are a combined score of 103 - 10 vs. Little Debbie State College and Hostess University.

Two Game Stats:

5 passing TDs and 1 INT - QBs Tyler Wilson and Brandon Mitchell have a combined 176.2 passer rating and have thrown for 54 for 74 (73%) with 737 yards with 9.96 yards per attempt.

13 receivers have caught passes with Jarius Wright, Cobi Hamilton and Joe Adams leading the way.

The rushing game is still a bit of a work in progress with a young and inexperienced Offensive Line. 75 carries for 361 yards (4.8 per) and 6 TDs.

The Razorbacks have scored 3 times on special teams - two punt return TDs for Joe Adams in the opener and one kickoff return TD for Marquel Wade in game two. Another kickoff return for a TD by Joe Adams was called back on a penalty in game two.
