2011 SEC Football Discussion

It's hard to say, because like usual, LSU's DL was dominant while Oregon's OL proved why Kelly needed so much trickery to get a first down on 3rd & short. I'd say it was LSU's doing, but Oregon made it a lot worse with their talent & mistakes.

Agreed. Oregon was, and still is, over-rated. They lost too much experience on both lines to be anywhere near as good - to begin the season at least - as they were last year.

They might still win the PAC 12, but aside from Stanford, there isn't anyone out there on the left coast that could hang with most of the SEC or BIG 10.

So rumors now are that the SEC vote in A&M 11-1-1 (Ole Miss no, Vandy abstain)

-BUT-

there's also a claim WVU is the target for 14th team. Sign that they are trying to move in on Ohio and PA high school football or what? West Virgina offers almost nothing otherwise.

WVU was on my short list.

we ain't getting anyone from the states of Florida, Georgia, So Carolina, or Kentucky.

odds of us getting one and only one of the North Carolina schools is slim.

Va Tech would be foolish to leave the easy train to BCS bowl to come to the SEC.

That leaves Virginia or WVU.

I really want Missou over WVU. UVA has an academic rep to protect, and thus I don't see it.

You can list 50 reasons why Virgina would be a better fit. Starting with deep southern roots, much greater population/tv audience/wealth, better recruiting.

Something off about going after WVU. The Big 10 wouldn't have considered them, despite likely rivalries with tOSU and PSU. Really does seem like a northern push first and foremost. Pittsburgh and SW PA are great recruiting grounds and it's all within 90 minutes of Morgantown.

[censored] That!
[censored] that any other potential team to add to the west.

give you [censored]ers in the east some [Mark May]hole school with no history to play every year.
We'll take Aubie off your hands. They were a regular back in the day. That way those inbreds from Bama have a shot to play each other every fifteen years or so in Atlanta. Or we'll take Miss State. Hell, it would be a year before they notice they'd left the West.

won't work.
Bama has to play BOTH aubie and tenn every year.
Aubie has to play BOTH uga and bama every year.

only way to make that happen is if Bama and Aubie are in the same division.

meaning Bama and Aubie would move East, and the West would get Vandy.
probably also see the end of permanent cross division rivals.

so we would lose Bama, Auburn, and Florida off our schedule so we could have Vandy and fucking Missouri.

no thanks.

add a team to the east.
the Bama schools will cry enough to keep permanent cross division rivals.

we keep rivalries with Bama, Auburn, and Florida while addin Texas A&M.

The only way that the bolded part does not apply to West Virginia even more than to VPI is if you are assuming that the Big East is on the verge of implosion. The ACC might also be on the verge of implosion, in which case the left-overs of both will form the new Easy Train to the BCS.

This. As a Virginian I don't see any way that UVA would leave the ACC to join the SEC. It's not a fit academically and they'd have to cut ties with every rivalry they have. They'd also be a perennial bottom feeder in football. They can't win the recruiting battles in their own state against Va Tech.

I guess Clemson and Louisville are off the short list
