2011 NFL Draft (Mocks, Eval, etc)

If Green is available at that spot that would be a great pick up for the Browns.

A #1 WR like Green could really make the whole team better. He would draw coverage away from the other WR's which would allow them a better ability to get open. Just look how much better MM looked when Braylon was on the other side of the field, and Green is a much better WR than that fucktard. It would also make the safeties and LB's account for the PA pass and not bite on the run as easily, which should make the running game a little better. If the offense can control the clock for longer and score more points the defense won't be playing from behind as much so they would look better.

Any mock draft that does not have the Steelers getting an Olineman or a CB in the first round I throw away. I can not phathom them not addressing one of those needs in the first round.

Yeah, I feel that they need to address the offensive line position first and foremost, while secondary should be their secondary concern (no pun intended).

I'm not a Steelers fan, but I was able to catch a few of their games this year. With that being said, the offensive line was one of the few areas that did not impress me. Although Roethlisberger has a knack for running around in the pocket and trying to buy excessive amounts of time, I feel that (from what I saw) the offensive line was never able to establish any form of consistency.

On the other hand, the defense was stout again this year with the defensive line and linebacker corps providing the anchor for their squad. On the other hand, the secondary always seemed to be the downfall of their defense. I know that Rodgers was playing hot football the last seven games of the season and post-season, but with the exception of a few errant throws early in the game Rodgers exposed an aging secondary. Ike Taylor and Ryan Clark aren't getting younger.

In essence, I think you have to address the offensive line. I'd go with Mike Pouncey. I don't know how things would unfold with he and his brother, Maurkice, being on the same team, but the kid is a mammoth that plays some tenacious football.

And call me a homer (and I would hate to see him go to Pittsburgh), but if Heyward somehow drops to 31, then the Steelers should seriously consider grabbing him and stocking up so that they can add depth and avoid the cold reality of injuries that they saw when Aaron Smith went down this year.

ExHawg - Your analysis is spot on. A true number on that team is going to make the Browns a better all around team. The pieces are coming together for the Browns for sure. As you said a couple of first downs here, some points here and the Browns have a completely different season. As a Steelers fan the accuracy in which Colt throws the ball and the Oline you have in place is going to make the division that much harder.

Outside of Green is there another reciver on the board you think the Browns would consider a number 1?

As well as his brother played I am not sure he will be on the board that long but if he is man that would be a fantastic pick up. Steelers need tackles but I don't think they pass on Pouncey if he is there.

The line had issues most of the season, but they started to gel at the end and into the playoffs. They had 2 starting OL on IR by the 6th week, and lost Pouncey at the end.

Ike played very well and I think he'll be solid for another 3 years or so. My main concern is to upgrade McFadden, who I think looks a little slow at times. I'd like to replace him with someone faster/quicker.

He played next to Maurkice in college, so I think they would do well together, and that he is an ideal pick.

The only youth on the DL is Ziggy hood. If we can't get a top notch OL or CB then I'd love to pick up Heyward. He'd add valuable depth and some flexibility as well.

I was one person saying that we needed to get AJ Green about a month ago. But I have changed my mind and think that getting a dominant DE is more important.

I think that good GM's realize that you can find great receivers in the 2nd round and beyond. I don't know what Holmgren and Heckert will do but there are major needs on the DL, OL, LB, WR, S, CB. The best bet is to probably draft the best player available. If that's AJ Green and he has good character (I don't want a prima dona WR, that seems to be a quick way to destroy a season or 5) then I'm all for it.

Whatever Holmgren and Heckert think will make the Browns winners. However, I don't believe that they will think that AJ Green is the answer. I think they believe in the West Coast system more than the receivers.

Dilfer: Cam Newton workout was 'phenomenal'

Speaking on ESPN Thursday afternoon, analyst Trent Dilfer called Auburn QB Cam Newton's Thursday media day workout "one of the most phenomenal personal workouts I've ever seen."
"If scouts saw this they'd have been slobbering," added Dilfer, who called Newton a "dynamic athlete" and "incredibly impressive." Dilfer praised Newton's refinement, accuracy, and arm strength while proclaiming the "sky is the limit." Newton's measurables have never been in question, so it's hardly surprising that he excelled in a controlled environment. It is a positive sign, though, that the tutoring on his footwork and acclimation to working under center have paid off. It now seems likely that a team with a top-five selection will fall in love Newton, but his character concerns and football acumen will still be scrutinized over the next two months.

WTF would Dilfer know about what it takes to be a good QB?

Agree with those who say grab Cam Heyward at #31 for the Steelers. They can address CB and OL later and still get help.

I have to disagree... I think they have tried that in years past and it has not panned out. Ike might be serviceable for another 2 years or so but Gay and McFadden are just plain awful. We need immediate help at CB and Oline.

Unless he comes in around 295ish, he's still best suited as a 5 technique DE.

But hey, he has the burst, strength and pursuit to make a fine 4-3 DT.

Either way though, the 8th best DE? Especially after that bowl performance - somebody's gotta be high.

bowl performance was not even at full strength. He was hurt.

http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/37350/60/mayock-updates-his-top-fives

NFL Network's Mike Mayock is widely considered the top draft analyst in the business, so we tend to take his opinions seriously. We often do Mayock-related blurbs on the Rotoworld news page.

Mayock released his initial top-fives by position on January 25. He updated them today. Here they are:

Quarterbacks
1. Blaine Gabbert, Missouri
2. Jake Locker, Washington
3. Cam Newton, Auburn
4. Ryan Mallett, Arkansas
5. Andy Dalton, TCU

Comments: Mayock says he's not done with his quarterback evaluation, but he's made some changes since January. He's now got Dalton alone in the five spot after the Horned Frogs' four-year starter previously shared the position with Ricky Stanzi, Colin Kaepernick, and Pat Devlin. Devlin's stock appears to have plummeted since a poor showing at the East-West Shrine Game. Senior Bowl MVP Christian Ponder remains absent from the list.

Running Backs
1. Mark Ingram, Alabama
2. Mikel Leshoure, Illinois
3. Daniel Thomas, Kansas State
4. Ryan Williams, Virginia Tech
5. Jacquizz Rodgers, Oregon State

Comments: Mayock relentlessly talked up Kendall Hunter at the Senior Bowl, so it's surprising that the former Oklahoma State Cowboy is no longer even in a tie for the five spot. The biggest notable here, particularly from a fantasy perspective, is Leshoure's jump into the two-hole. Mayock said during Senior Bowl week that he wanted to watch more film on Leshoure. After doing so, Mayock has moved the Illinois product into conversation as a top-40 selection. Ingram remains the consensus top draft-eligible running back.

Bills GM Buddy Nix likes Auburn QB Cam Newton "a great deal," according to NFL.com's Vic Carucci.

"The Bills might very well be inclined to take him in the No. 3 slot," adds Carucci. "I think QB will be prominently on the Bills' radar." Coach Chan Gailey has publicly supported Ryan Fitzpatrick as the 2011 starter, but he's more of a bridge to the future than a legit solution. ESPN's Trent Dilfer predicted Thursday that Newton wouldn't last past the third pick in the draft.
