2011 In-state Players to Watch

Merged into this thread where we've been tracking Kelly for a long time. There was nothing more than token interest from OSU, especially after Bobek was offered, and thus never a thread created.

Couple of impressive performances last night:

Minor sets record, Perry rolls past Canton South in Boedicker's debut | FridayNightOhio.com

Cody Minor had no idea who Al Ziegelhofer is.

From now on, though, the senior quarterback always will be a step ahead of Ziegelhofer in the Perry record book.

Minor set a Panthers single-game passing yards record with 244 in Thursday?s 44-13 season-opening victory over Canton South. The old mark stood for a long time. Ziegelhofer set it in 1972, when he threw for 200 yards against Oakwood.

Game Review | FridayNightOhio.com

Dover senior wide receiver Colton Zahner set two school records with 14 catches and 291 receiving yards as the Tornadoes won their opener at home.

Carrollton quarterback John Lowdermilk threw both touchdowns to Smith and was 17-of-27 passing for 274 yards with an interception.

Elder puts away Winton Woods | cincinnati.com | Cincinnati.Com

Coffaro has three touchdowns, new school record
By Jason Williams ? Enquirer contributor ? August 27, 2010

It doesn?t seem to matter that Elder returned just two starters on offense from last season?s Division I state semifinal team.

Especially since one of those players is Ben Coffaro.

The senior co-captain was a one-man show in a record-setting performance under the bright lights of Nippert Stadium on Friday night. Coffaro?s three touchdowns, including a school-record 98-yard kickoff return, lifted Elder to a 38-21 season-opening victory over defending Division II state champion Winton Woods in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown.

Elder senior is an offensive force rushing and receiving
By Mark Schmetzer ? Enquirer contributor ? August 26, 2010

Few players did more for Elder's offense in last year's 10-3 season than Ben Coffaro.

As a junior, Coffaro led the Panthers in rushing and receiving while helping them to the Division I state semifinals, where they lost to eventual champion Hilliard Davidson.

Coffaro might be asked to carry even more of the load as a senior. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound multi-tasker is the only returning starter on offense for coach Doug Ramsey, which means he will be counted on to ease the transition of junior quarterback Ben Gramke.

From Enquirer contributor Jason Williams tonight:

It doesn?t seem to matter that Elder returned just two starters on offense from last season?s Division I state semifinal team.

Especially since one of those players is Ben Coffaro.

The senior co-captain was a one-man show in a record-setting performance under the bright lights of Nippert Stadium on Friday night. Coffaro?s three touchdowns, including a school-record 98-yard kickoff return, lifted Elder to a 38-21 season-opening victory over defending Division II state champion Winton Woods in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown.

Elder coach Doug Ramsey and the Panthers Nation had high expectations for Coffaro coming into the season, and the second-team all-state performer showed he is more than ready to shoulder a heavier load in 2010.

Coffaro finished with 90 yards rushing and 137 yards receiving.

?If any college coach questions his speed, they should watch the tape of this game,? Ramsey said. ?That team is really fast over there, and they couldn?t catch him. I think he?s the best player in Cincinnati.?

Richie Sanders a one-man wrecking ball as Lake Catholic overpowers St. Ignatius, 28-21 - cleveland.com

How far will Sanders carry the Cougars this year?

It's a good question after Sanders carried Lake Catholic to a 28-21 victory over St. Ignatius at Cleveland Browns Stadium in the Charity Games doubleheader nightcap Saturday. Combined attendance for the event was 20,025.

Sanders rushed for 239 yards in 32 attempts, including touchdown runs of four and 62 yards, and he scored on a 56-yard interception return.

A senior linebacker/tailback (5-10, 180 pounds) with sprinter's speed, Sanders last year was Lake Catholic's leading rusher, scorer and tackler when a broken collarbone ended his season in Week 6.

"He's got more talent than he knows and as long as he stays healthy and hungry, he's going to have a whale of a year," Lake Catholic coach Mike Bell said.

Sanders said he was a bundle of nervous anticipation all week.

"It feels good. I'm loving it. I don't want it to stop," Sanders said. "We're really good. I just can't wait to see what's going to go down longer down the road."
