Kent Roosevelt junior quarterback Evan Shimensky accepts scholarship offer from Kent State University - cleveland.com

Tim Rogers, The Plain Dealer, April 26, 2010 1:19 p.m.

Kent, Ohio - The opportunity to play Division I football close to home convinced Kent Roosevelt junior quarterback Evan Shimensky to accept a scholarship offer from Kent State on Sunday.

"My top goal has always been to play Division I football and what better place to play than in your hometown?," said Shimensky, who accounted for 2,000 yards on the ground and through the air last season. "If I get homesick it's about a five-minute drive to my house. I've been going to KSU games for a long time and I am very excited about having the opportunity to play there."

Shimensky, a 5-11, 182-pound honor student, completed 113 of 199 passes for 1,517 yards and 19 touchdowns against three interceptions last season. He also ran for 483 yards and six touchdowns on 126 carries.
